Hi folks
Some of this new small footprint space hardware is brilliant -- I've just got 2 of these (max capacity 2 X 22TB per device) --I'm replacing 2X old HP Proliant Gen 8 servers -- the one's with 4 bays --
The device does offline cloning if you want - but otherwise it's not RAID or JBOD -- each disk is a separate entity which is what I want (You can of course use mdadm on a Linux host if you want to use Software RAID though). Disks are also quiesced when not active -- very impressed with this piece of simple kit.
Added -- This also works brilliantly when connected to that other piece of incredibly cheap ghardware I posted on recently -- the NIPOGOI micro PC -- 2 of these with 4 of the RSTECH connectors will easily replace 2 of those long serving NAS Proliant servers -- also these micro PC's have 4 cores rather than 2 of the old servers.
Note though if you are an extreme gamer these aren't appropriate -- but for a load of typical stuff well worth looking at.
Very impressed with a load of these "Micro" type devices " -- although for gaming you really need much more horseppower of course -- but the audio and video on these things make a mockery of a load more far more expensive GPU's on desktop machines.
For €32 a pop --what's not to like --- Noise is also tiny -- Those old Proliant servers have lasted me a long time - but it really is time for them to go.
Great way also to backup disks overnight with the offline clone facility.
Cheers
