[Chrome] Prevent video autoplay?

Hello,

Now that the AutoplayStopper extension is no longer available, what simple and reliable solution is there to prevent Chrome for autoplaying videos?

Video Blocker isn't a good alternative, as it doesn't provide a way to pause/stop a video after playing it.

In Google Chrome there is no option to completely block videos without installing a third-party extension but there is an option to mute the audio in videos that are automatically played on all web sites or only the sites that you choose.
I do not have Chrome myself to test this, but according to this article you can create aa special shortcut to Chrome that will disable autoplay on videos. You might want to try it to see if it will work. If it does, you can remove your current shortcut and replace it with the new one.

Thanks. I knew about blocking audio but I'd rather block the whole thing if possible.

Adding a parameter to the shortcut doesn't work:

Code: 
"C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --autoplay-policy=user-required

I guess we'll have to wait until someone comes up with a new extension, possibly outside Google Playstore.

FWIW, if you were to use the Brave browser, chromium based, you can easily prevent video autoplay in the settings.

Thanks, but Youtube still plays videos without asking.

Thanks. I'd rather stick to Chrome until someone comes up with a solution. With so many bothered users worldwide, it's only a matter of time.
