This can be done using Macrium or any imaging program of your choice. This is how I do it with Macrium. I make the Macrium boot disk. Then I make an image of both computers. I had failures trying to boot my computer using a clone. Then I use the Macrium boot disk to boot on the new computer. Once Macrium boots I use the image from the old computer to restore to the new computer. You may not need it but I would backup the drivers on the new computer just in case some drivers don't install. I'll look up the guide on how to backup drivers and post back.
You are so wrong. Windows 10 and 11 are very forgiving when it come to transferring the OS from an old computer to a new computer. I wouldn't be surprised to find that the success rate is around 99.9%.
You will as soon as you encounter today's computers (speaking as a tech). 95% of brand new have NVME OS drives, both laptops and desktops.
I have an m.2 option on my board, but I use all Samsung 850 Pro ssd drives, and I swap around OS's to much to use an M.2. I don't play any games, so the cloning dock works great for my personal needs. Unless you're playing games, or running CAD programs, you won't even notice any difference in the speed of an M.2 and a regular "good" ssd drive like a Samsung.
Already have such computers, Notebook from Oct. '21 256GB, Desktop from Apr. '22 512GB and a cheapo Notebook 2 months ago 128GB [bought for particular purpose].
