Cloud Backup...(Is Tresorit an Option)?

I'm wondering if anyone has experience using Tresorit as a cloud backup for home computer systems. I became aware of Tresorit by reading the "Restore Privacy" web site. It speaks highly of their security, connectivity, and server locations. It advertises as "zero-knowledge" capability; this, to me, is plus. I've tried it but would benefit from hearing from someone that had developed an effective strategy for backing up several home systems. Any comments / help would be greatly appreciated.

I've never heard of that cloud provider. I can say I do not use the cloud except for sharing files when needed.

I manage 5 Windows devices and all my backup is local. No passwords are stored on the devices. That would be a lot of data to have in the cloud since I keep multiple backups of every system we use. All these external drives I have around here is free storage with master copies stored in a huge gun safe bolted into concrete. I feel I am as prepared as I can be if disaster strikes even though there's not one darn thing on any computer here that I couldn't live without.

I never heard of that company, but I was using Carbonite Safe, which is also a cloud backup service. I actually liked the service but it turned out to be one subscription too many, so I cancelled it. It wasn't for performance or usage issues though.

The one thing about cloud storage is that your files are offsite should something happen at home. The other thing is the ability to access those files from anywhere in the world. There may be other feature depending on the service provider. And yes, they are secure.

Personally, if you like the service, why ask us what we think? And as you'll find many still haven't bought into the cloud so you may get answers decrying such a service as many don't trust it.

I have zero issues with cloud and cloud backup services, but like anything else, it all about what you wish to accomplish. I'd highly recommend a cloud backup service and in fact and considering renewing my Carbonite subscription.

I asked about Tresorit as a possible cloud backup but I'm having a challenge learning how to use effectively; hence, I was looking for some insights from another user (if anyone here is using it). So, I like the "zero-knowledge" and network structure and location, but the process is still a bit confusing to me. Hence, I'm not ready to "like the service." But, it has potential.

It is useful and sound to have off-site storage for critical information.

I've never heard of Tresorit before, so I can't help you there. I can't put all my trust in only one backup method, so I use 3 methods all at the same time, one of which must be offsite:

1. Microsoft OneDrive
2. Microsoft File History
3. Macrium Reflect Drive Images

Also, what happens if firm goes bust or sold?

For most consumers rather than corporate, I would recommend sticking to well established majors e g. google drive, dropbox, onedrive etc. These have robust infrastructure and are unlikely to fail commercially.

Is Tresorit sound? No idea, but you need to do research about provider to make an informed judgement if you are going to trust it with critical data.

Of course, critical data should be stored in a minimum of two locations e.g. local backup drives AND cloud service.

This is absolutely correct. I'm sensitive about this as my sisters house burned down. It's imperative to keep a backup copy offsite. Store with a neighhor, a friend, at work, in a safe deposit box, in a rubbermaid container buried in the woods, whatever.

I think the fact that most here, and especially those of us who DO use a cloud backup service, have all said we've never heard of Tresorit, is telling? Perhaps you might Google the company? Look to any forums they might have?

And yes, an offsite cloud backup service IS worth it. But if you're going to get the service, yeah, you need to know what you're getting. BUT.... in order to understand what you're getting; you should know what it is you want... and why you want it.
