Comcast Email to Yahoo Mail?

Comcast sent me an email about moving my Comcast email to a Yahoo email. My email address would stay the same as would my messages and contacts folder. My question is should I say no and keep what I have or say yes and move to the Yahoo email? I guess I'm asking what would be the plus and minus's of switching?

Don't know if it's true in your case but several ISPs around here did away with their email servers and went to yahoo who now handles the isp domain emails.
Customers email addresses stayed the same, but yahoo servers now manage the email. If that is what comcast is doing, you won't have a choice if you want to keep using the comcast domain email address.

I dread the day when Xfinity does a mandatory cutover to Yahoo. In 2025, I asked Xfinity Level 2 support, and they said that most xfinity customers were already using third-party servers, so they were going to discontinue Comcast email. Maybe there has been a change.

I also have a Yahoo throwaway account, and it's a cesspool of crap and spam. Even Comcast does a better job filtering that stuff out. That said, I have had several periods of email instability that could be tied back to comcast. And when i once talked with a comcast Level 2 tech, she didn't know what Outlook was. You can't make this stuff up.

I am super-reluctant to switch to gmail because of privacy issues.

I received the same email, but I never used my Comcast email account for anything other than just to sign into Xfinity/Comcast. Now that I only use the app, I don’t even need it anymore, so I just never responded to the email or took any action at all.

When this transition first started in 2025 it was required but that has now changed to optional.
I have no plans to update as many have had issues after changing to Yahoo.

If you think you will ever need it you need to log into the email account every two years or the address will be deactivated.

I have two Yahoo accounts and two Gmail accounts. The Gmail accounts have never received any spam and is very quiet. I have t send some test email to them once a week to see if they are still working. Of the Yahoo accounts, only one as received some spam, about once a week. But you have to work with the Yahoo accounts to get them that way.

I use to get lots of spam with one of the Yahoo accounts. However, most spam is pretty noticeable and can be marked as such and sent to the spam folder. Never open span, except from the spam folder. Then, once in the spam folder, select the email and block them. Yahoo has a limit of 1,000 blocked emails. Once it is full, you have to go back, delete them, and then start again. The second time around there is much less spam and easy to manage. Now, I only get one or two spam emails about once a week. The Yahoo spam filter now snags any and all spam.

[true story]I worked for a company for 35 years, before I retired (2011). During my employment, Outlook was the company standard. However, I was a Unix admin and did not want to use Outlook. I never actually used Outlook. Instead, I used Thunderbird and configured a POP3 connection to the main email server. This was after we switched from Unix's Sendmail. I used our email system with Thunderbird/POP3 for over 10 years. I worked this way until I retired. When talking with the guys in charge of email, I found out that, they didn't even know that they had a POP3 capability in their email configuration.

Because I was a Unix admin, my email address was in a lot of places that normally received special admin mail. Initially, the allowed me to keep track of failed user logins and users trying to attempt root login. So when Outlook was deemed the company standard and a central email server was set up, "sendmail" was turned off. Then, one day a PC admin got into the Unix systems and turned "sendmail" back on. Well, "sendmail" went right to work sending me all of those emails that I missed over the years. So one morning, when I logged into my PC, I received a notice that I had 18,000 in my inbox. To clear up my inbox, I just clicked on "Get Mail" and Thunderbird started popping all my email from my account. It took Thunderbird 24 hours to pop all the email from my account. During that time, I disabled "sendmail" and directed the PC crew to stay out of the Unix servers. I finally had to go in and remove the "sendmail" package from all of the servers, to keep them from restarting it.[/true story]

Verizon used to offer their own email. A while back they explained that they would be moving all the Verizon emails to AOL email.
They did and kept our addresses the same.

I've had my Verizon email address on AOL's servers for about 15 years now, and no problems.

I like the "basic" version of email on the AOL servers. It's clean and intuitive.

I'm happy with Outlook and Proton. Outlook isn't half bad once the filters and settings are sorted. I used to have a Yahoo junk account but that got replaced with Google.

Thanks for the replies. The email does say that I'm invited to upgrade and not that I have too upgrade. Unless Yahoo Mail will allow me to use Cloudflare WARP I don't see any reason to upgrade unless Comcast makes it mandatory. With my Comcast email I have to use Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 instead of WARP so I can access the emails.

I received the same notice "The email does say that I'm invited to upgrade and not that I have too upgrade" I just logged in "On My PC"with my original name and password @Comcast.net. maybe something will change. When I log in on my phone app, it just goes right into the sight, so I'm confused. I do receive my bill at my normal yahoo address, I guess I will find out soon.
