Solved Confusion about activating programs in Office 2021 Professional

Yesterday I bought direct from Microsoft Office 2021 Professional and sought to download it to a brand new Laptop using Win11 Professional I have received confirmation from Microsoft that Ithe program has been duccessfully downloded. however in order to access Word, Excel, etc I receive the notice that I must activate these pregrams within Office 2021. The instruction is that must do so before Nov 8, whici also is a puzzle.Is this a marketing exercise fromMicrosoft to get me to download 365? which I do not want under any circumstances and have never given any indication to the effect that I wish to access it . I have accessed Google and thought i had uninstalled Edge. My Q is . should I simply 'activate' as advised. All help gratefully received.

All versions of Office -- at least certainly from Office 2010 onwards need to be "activated". Not sure why they have a quick expiry date in it unless you used any of the programs -- that's normal as it's only a warning to say if product not activated by xxxx then you'll lose most of its functionality. There's nothing "Malicious" in the scheme.

Some earlier versions of office were more generous --Office 2010 for example gave you 30 days to activate.

Thankyou Jimbo. i bought the Levo ThinkpayXI Gen 11 about 1 month ago and for various unavoidable reasons had not sough to load Office 2021 it until yesterday.
