Context Menu

Can anyone tell me what the Context Menu is for on the desktop?

I keep my desktop clean with no icons on it, but even if I had a few icons, I can't seem to figure it out.

You mean to show the desktop? Move to the far right of the taskbar.....

If you mean to see items on the desktop, right click desktop and view, at the top of the context menu....

No, I can do that, I just see no reasoning for it. Besides, there 7 redundant things listed on both pages. There's no delete, but there's an Undelete, etc.

I guess I would need to clutter up my desktop with a bunch of icons in order to make any sense of the Context Menu, and I ain't agonna do that.

Uh, you can't delete an item without selecting it first..... Just like in Windows Explorer. If you haven't got a file / folder selected, no delete icon.

While it is definitely touch optimized, I do like the automatic icons for often used actions versus the old A full line for each item. And I like it as it is in that it only displays appropriate items - i.e. just right clicking on desktop doesn't give you a delete ion, but selecting an item does....

it will take some getting used to - but a nice trimmed down context menu is actually growing on me.

So, at this point, since I don't have anything on my desktop, there's no reason for me to even concern myself with the Context Menu there. And when an installation puts an icon in the upper left of my desktop, right clicking on that icon does bring up delete, so that's probably the only thing I'll be doing with the Context Menu on the desktop. :)

I don't know if it works with Office but I like the fact I can open a new Libre document via right click.

The only Context Menu I was referring to was the one on the Desktop. They're all different.

That was the desktop context menu under 'more'.

Oh. I don't have Libre Office installed on 11 yet. Just Microsoft 365. And the Context Menu is pretty useless, since all my Microsoft 365 apps are already on the Start Menu.

True, but I can get to what I want to do from the Start Menu just as easily. :)

Well, yes, you can, but you have to open and then create a doc.

This way (which has been around forever) is easier to do, and I'm happy it's still included in Win11.
