Conundrum: Power Button LED Stays On When PC Unexpectedly Shuts Down

The only way to get out of this "mode" is to disconnect power. I break AC power to the computer either by pulling the plug from either end or turning off the PSU switch and then the LED goes off in a few seconds. Only then, I reconnect AC power and turning the tower on.

This problem existed for a few years , even before upgrading from Win10 to 11 and through a few BIOS upgrades. However, back in October, I did a clean reinstall of Windows 11 (reformatting C:\) and this PC would boot faster and :D it wouldn't lock up like this. It wasn't until December that this problem  returned.

Otherwise, the PC runs fine :coffee:. Any ideas? Any tests for the power supply or motherboard?

I'm not sure I want to change that. The issue isn't that the LED is on.

The issue is my PC has shut down but pressing the Power button won't start it. That I have to disconnect power in order to restart the PC.

Steve C, et al,

Appreciate the replies. I haven't had time to tear apart the PC to test the PSU, but I will. I have personally seen other PSUs completely or partially fail.

What's so bizarre :eek1: is that the PC seems to shut down (when it SHOULD NOT) but doesn't fully shut down, instead hits this frozen state where only a full power cycle (disconnect AC and wait for the Power Button LED to go out, then reconnect and restart) "fixes" this bizarre sympton.

Will post again after testing the PSU. 🤓

The issue is my PC has shut down but pressing the Power button won't start it. That I have to disconnect power in order to restart the PC.
The only time I have seen that was when I disabled S0 Modern standby on a computer in order to enable S3 Sleep.
When I re-enabled S0 Modern standby, the problem disappeared.
