I once had an important word document on company server that I had spent all day creating, and nightmare - the company file server drive failed, so the word document was lost. This showed a real weakness in company's file server - schoolboy error!

My boss was fuming saying I should have backed it up on a local drive even though that was against corporate policy.

Then I had a brainwave - I had emailed a pdf copy to client for a quick review.

Opened pdf document in MS word, saved it as .docx (as described in post #3).

It translated very well, losing some formatting.

Then a few minutes later after some reformatting, problem solved.

Mind you I can also remember a similar incident a few decades ago when we used still used typewriters.

The original printed copy (5 pages or so) got lost or damaged - the only copy we had was literally a "carbon copy" (google it if you are too young to remember what that means - if you do not know, then you may not realise why emails have a CC option lol).

So, we then called upon Head of Department's secretary to retype it. I doubt any Word user these days could match her typing accuracy!!!

Yes, but Word does not have an integrated OCR. The graphics objects will appear in the docx as graphics, even if they contain text.
