How To Electronically Sign A PDF Document?

Have a document that I have to fill out and sign and I can do it electronically as oppose to having to print it out. I did this years ago but forgot how to do it.


I am using a Chromebook. When I did this year ago, it was with a windows laptop. I can do this on a windows 11 laptop but prefer doing it on my Chromebook.


I recalled years ago I had either signed my signature on a piece of paper and then took a photo of it with my iphone and uploaded it to my laptop and then either clicked on that photo and then moved it to the signature spot and that is my signature... or I manually signed the signature with my mouse but I do not believe it was this way though. I had the signature saved.


I have to fill out a few things in the PDF file as well and remember moving my mouse to certain areas and then a box appears and then my typing in whatever I had to write. So imagine a form where you have to fill out certain lines where you normally write it out if you have the printed the document out and you have to put your signature on it.


How do I do this on the Chromebook? What program do I need? Do I need to download a specific Adobe program? I remember years ago it was adobe reader or some other adobe program that I used. The other thing is it seems on my Chromebook, I have to link my google account or some other account to adobe before I can use it? Can someone tell me the exact way to do this on a Chromebook? I know doing this on a windows 11 laptop will probably be easier but want to use my Chromebook for it.

What I did was send the PDF file to my google drive. So the file is in my google drive and also in my email. Then I open the document either way and click on preview. When I do that, it shows the actual PDF file the way it is suppose to. However, there is no way for me to like click on certain areas and then type in words and letters and write my signature in it right? There is an option that I can click on that says comment and when I click on that... when I highlight a line or area I want to type on, all it does is highlight it yellow? It's strange because when I type in Newmann on that line, it doesn't even show up. Like when you go to print preview for example and preview it, it shows a yellow highlight and Newmann isn't even on the line. Can someone explain to me what is the purpose of this?


I had tried to just open the file normally but when I do that, it opens up the PDF file in like a word/openoffice type of way and the words and letters are completely scattered and not like PDF.



How am I suppose to fill out the form by typing in things and writing my signature on this PDF file on a chromebook? So I have to download Acrobat Reader on my Chromebook if isn't there to do this? I have to link my Google account to Acrobat Reader as well in order for it to work? Then I can fill the form out and write my signature on it? The thing is I am writing sensitive information on it but that is still fine? Once I'm doing filling out the form and writing my signature, I would save the new PDF file and upload it to another site to whom I'm sending the PDF file to. Can someone tell me the correct way to do this on a chromebook? I already have the PDF file on my google email and Google drive account. So I could use other programs similar to Acrobat Reader but that is not recommended? Want to use a program that is safe and secure for sensitive documents. I usually only have to do this once or twice a year so I don't need to buy a program for this. Thanks.

I am using a Chromebook and not windows laptop for this.

I downloaded Acrobat reader on the play store on my Chromebook.

I want to know how do I solve the cache message that prevents me from doing the fill and sign.

Might be the wrong answer but don't the people who want this stuff signed usually have a website you can log on to with a browser and access their software to sign the document. A lot use wordpress which you can access via a browser even on a chromebook.

For example as an external contractor I logon to the clients website to fill in timesheets for hours worked that week. They approve (usually !!!!) and sign and then email back the signed timesheets which I then send to the agency for invoicing.

Their software throws up the relevant stuff whether I'm on Windows or Linux - most browsers are "OS agnostic". A chromebook is essentially running a variant of Linux anyway.

Personally if you have to mess around installing a lot of 3rd party stuff to get this done then I'd just print out the bits / pages / sections that need signing - scan them and email back to the organisation wanting your signature again. Easily the simplest assuming you have a printer and scanner - most people do. Plus you can save the signed copy on to your machine for audit or if you need to re-use.

I agree with Jimbo: ask the organisation that wants you to sign to tell you how (or, even better, to provide a mechanism) to sign the pdf. Unless there's something in it for you, you shouldn't have to do the hard work.

Aren't you able to use your mouse to digitally sign the document using Chrome? I've done this quite a few times. Easy.

To the OP: does this help? It seems a method is built in (as above poster writes). But note this caveat: important: This feature is for convenience and doesn’t provide signature verification or security.
