In a lengthy thread elsewhere in this forum, I have been given three tutorials to follow in order. I did number one successfully, but have not figured out how to do the very first step, of the second tutorial, which is to sign out of the the user account (ex: "Brink2") you want to change the name of its user profile folder (ex: "C:\Users\Brink2").

I know how to go to C:\Users\xxx and know the account name, which I am told to sign out of, but not how to do that. My obvious question is how do I do that? I did a search, but did not find out, so once again I am asking for assistance. This is yet another example of my needed to do things that I have never encountered despite my many years of using Windows, as I have only rarely found a need to delve into its inner workings.

Move this to its proper location if this is not that, please.

Hello mate, :alien:

You can use an available option below to sign out of an account.

If you're wanting to rename the profile folder of that account, then you would need to sign in to a different admin account than the one you wanted to rename the profile folder for.

Most steps in our tutorials will include links (ex: sign out) in them for further details on how to do something.

Thank you for the prompt reply. As I said, this entirely new to me despite my many years of using Windows. One example of my use of Windows was to create a fire service training program. That had one hundred twenty-six 35mm slides, the state of the art, and each of them had a thumbnail in the left-hand column of the instructors' version to ensure that what was being taught was what the students would see in their manual.

My lengthy thread, which has led me here, says "But you use that email address for your Microsoft account, correct? If so, what you accidentally did was converted your local account to a Microsoft account. If you and it changed back to a local account, follow these three tutorials in the order listed:" That seems to be correct.

Now I am not at all certain what I should be doing. I opened your first tutorial. chose "User," which returned the image below. I am the administrator, JOHN, the search returned "john" and I fear that if I were to do that, I would make matters even worse. Since then, I had returned here, and see a second tutorial, which just might be the one I ought to have used.

I would apologize for taking your time, but I am quite certain you would not believe that such an apology would be considered to be sincere.

Here is a quote from my lengthy thread bearing on what I am now doing:

"But you use that email address for your Microsoft account, correct? If so, what you accidentally did was converted your local account to a Microsoft account. If you and it changed back to a local account, follow these three tutorials in the order listed:"

The answer is in the affirmative, in C:\Users. I opened the first of the two tutorials you provided, chose the User option, which returned this:

User Aign Out.webp

I have NO argument with that statement. I need to take some time to review the lengthy file, which was started when somehow I encountered a session that installed what can only be described as a faulty copy of Windows 11. It was that very anomalous situation which eventually to this thread.

Given, as I believe I have made clear, while I was given what to others is quite likely to be comprehensible, is to me perhaps exactly the opposite, making it very difficult for me to be able to describe what I need to do. I even find that, as I try to explicate what I need assistance with, and that itself complicates the process for me as I have to leave one thread, look at another, then return and state where I am or what I need to ask about.

I shall try to come up with a description of what I believe I need to have help with.

With my background, in my third persona I was once faced with trying to quickly figure out how and why the walls of a cinder block building were catching fire and quickly act to issue the necessary fire ground orders to prevent what could have been an extremely dangerous situation. I hope that this situation won't become that dire.

I was about to post this when I realized that I had not thanked you for posting your message; please consider that as having been done.

How did I get here? I have no idea, but I do know what started the process. Some time ago, I was at my computer when something started; I did not now what it was, nor do have any idea as to what started it. I watched as what seemed to be an install of a second copy of Windows, which made and still makes no sense, at least to me.

When ever it was, it stopped, and I found that I was on what was clearly a mangled version of Windows, with no Windows button, and some other items here and there. I wanted to get out of there, but there was no apparent method nor place to so that. I managed somehow to type in :Switch user," which showed two uses, "John" and "John Liebson". I knew that "John" was my `real' copy of Windows 11, clicked on it, and I was in that real version. I spent some time seeing if I could find a way to delete `John Liebson' but not finding anything, I started a thread om Eleven Forum, How to delete spurious Windows account?

That started a lengthy exchange, which stopped when one very helpful person realized that until I could actually use File Manager, there would be no further work on getting rid of the rogue Windows 11 entry. He posted a set of three Eleven Forum Tutorials to be run in order. I ran the first one, Switch to Local Account from Microsoft Account in Windows 11, which worked.

As for the File Manager, which I rarely use, I was not aware that if I clicked on its icon on the Task Bar, it would open in Drop Box, and that was about all it would do. If I do get all three tutorials to work, it is my understanding that then with a working File Manager, I will then be able to resume the aided process of removing "John Liebson:shawn:

as an unwanted something on my computer.

I then started to run the second tutorial, Sign out of the user account (ex: "Brink2") you want to change the name of its user profile folder (ex: "C:\Users\Brink2"). I had to stop there, as I had no idea how to do that, and the tutorial did not bother to provide any instructions. I did a search, which provide all sorts of different ideas, and I realized that there was only one way to find the proper way to do that, and that is this forum.

There are TWO different items in the tutorial, and I have as much comprehension of which of the two is the one to use, and that is where this stands until Brink is kind enough (which he often is) to get me past that snag so that I can find out if I can run the second tutorial.

I would recommend to not mess with changing the name of profile folders for now until everything else is sorted. Otherwise, you risk breaking more.

Is there some reason no one appears to be willing to help before I make a serious error by making a poor choice of which option in the tutorial is the one I ought to use. I assume that there is there is someone who is familiar with the tutorial who could do this for me.

Volunteering is for me simply something that people do; your local fire department may do a better job of fire suppression due to a ten-year-long volunteer project that I started and ran successfully.

Sorry mate, but we were waiting on you to explain specifically what you are wanting to originally do first.

You past few threads have not been clear. We need to know to be able to help. Otherwise, it's a guessing game that can cause more issues.

Right-click the Start icon, hover over "Shut down or sign out" and select "Sign out".

was clearly a mangled version of Windows, with no Windows button,
lmao... yeah, prob kinda hard to do...

@Not Myself
what started the process. Some time ago, I was at my computer when something started; I did not now what it was, nor do have any idea as to what started it. I watched as what seemed to be an install of a second copy of Windows, which made and still makes no sense, at least to me.
"But you use that email address for your Microsoft account, correct? If so, what you accidentally did was converted your local account to a Microsoft account. If you and it changed back to a local account, follow these three tutorials in the order listed:"
1) that was me
2) why start a new thread for help with the same issue?
3) your other thread was about your user account being switched from a local to a microsoft account....
4) is this quoted statement referring to a reinstallation windows, installation of windows on a vm or just referring to a user account creation? big differences there that you have not specified.
5) your other thread, as well as this thread, are very unclear on details. you'll be better off posting screenshots of the issue so we can actually track what is happening and interpret what you mean.

You are not the only one confused, but I am sure I am the most confused, alas.

That other thread is the one that said I had switched to a Microsoft account. I was given a series of three tutorials to follow, one after the other. I did the first, which was easy, so I started the second, and its first step was to log off. It was that instruction which caused me to start a thread about dong that, as I had no idea whatsoever, especially as the tutorial gave several ways of doing that. I started getting some good advice about that, advice which simply stopped being offered.

I could post screen shots, but I am not sure how that would help, as the only thing that is keeping me from running the second of the three tutorials is how to log off. That is a good example of my rarely having had to delve rather deeply into the workings of Windows. I have used it from right after its original release, but as a platform for s;uch programs as Word Perfect, which does not need me to go into Windows, I started using WP in March, 1983, so I have learned how to get into it deeply to change its settings. I don't recall ever needing to get into Windows settings to get WP to do what I need; if I have, it would have been something easily accessible.

I thought that running tutorial number two would have been as easy as running number one was, but when it said to log off (of whatever it said), it offered not one single bit of advice as how to do that, which was rather frustrating.

I ought to have started this by thanking you; at least I just remembered to do that. Having done so, please ;let me know if I have clarified where I am stuck; if not so, then tell me precisely what you need from me, and I will endeavor to provide that information.

That cannot be correct, it is entirely too short and easy, I only deal with lengthy and complex.

Thanks, I know how to do that, but first if I may impose on you, when I start Tutorial Two and it says to log out, doing as you suggest, will that allow me to progress with the tutorial, and I don't need to concern myself with the many choices of the tutorial about logging out?

This is the second of the three tutorials, the one that starts with telling you to log out:

There was a time when I could create multiple-page bid specifications for $500,000 fire apparatus that were simpler than this tutorial. To me, it is actually scary!
