Copilot in Windows: enhanced design rolling out this week

  • Staff

 Windows Message Center

We’re bringing great enhancements to Copilot in Windows (in preview) this week. The pane launches in an expanded window size to give you even more space to chat. You can also resize it to adjust to your needs. You can easily switch back to a thinner side-by-side window, so that Copilot in Windows works alongside all of your other windows.

If you want a more immersive experience, continue your conversation on copilot.microsoft.com by using the Open in Microsoft Edge button at the top of Copilot.

When you launch Copilot in Windows, you will see a more streamlined look and feel designed to help you bring your ideas to life. We’ve introduced a cleaner, sleeker experience for answers and a fun new carousel of suggested prompts that showcase the power of Copilot in Windows. Please note that some styling might only be available for users with a Microsoft account.

These updates are rolling out over time, so check Edge for the latest update if you’re eager to see what’s new in Copilot in Windows. To learn more about this feature, see Welcome to Copilot in Windows.

Note: Copilot in Windows (in preview) is available in select global markets and will be rolled out to additional markets over time. Learn more. Copilot in Windows 10 functionality is limited and has specific system requirements.

The online Copilot at copilot.microsoft.com has already surpassed the onboard Copilot, IMHO.

For example, the online Copilot at copilot.microsoft.com can now compose music that you can listen to right away, with lyrics that you can sing to the music, see screenshot below. I asked Copilot to compose a minuet and it produced an art song that adheres to the classical compositional rules governing the minuet LOL I wish you could hear it, but this forum does not support uploading music or video file formats 🤷‍♂️

Note that the onboard Copilot does not have the music composing capability yet, or at least not without doing file conversions and the like.

The online Copilot at copilot.microsoft.com does require you to activate the Suno plugin by sliding a slider in the right hand panel of the browser window to the right. There are other plugins too that you activate in the same way. Note that the onboard Copilot does not support plugins (yet?)

Anyway, here is a screenshot of the minuet 'Dance of Grace' :copilot:

That's ambiguous. I HAVE a Microsoft account, I just don't log in with it.

@Wisewiz The styling may refer to Copilot's conversation styles
More Creative More Balanced More Precise

You get more from Copilot if you login with a Microsoft account.

I've got all three available on my NOT-logged-in-to MS-account PCs. Iwas really only crticising the phrasing "might only be available for users with a Microsoft account," since I'm a user "with a Microsoft account," I'm just not logged in to it.

I really do (think I) understand what they meant, though. Tx, @Haydon.

From the comments on this forum, I get the impression that the rollout of Copilot is not uniform, some users get this, other users get that, and the phrasing may well be the most precise in such a broad announcement.

In the same vein as my previous post, I should perhaps mention that the online Copilot at copilot.microsoft.com has, besides the 'Chat' feature, also a 'Notebook' feature.

The 'Notebook' feature allows the user to interact directly with the AI engine and very extensively so, up to 18,000 characters (compared to the 'Chat' feature's 2,000 characters)

The 'Notebook' feature is finicky, though, it's sometimes there and sometimes not there, it plays hide-and-seek with you LOL I think that MS is still very cautious about users interacting directly with the AI engine, and is busy building internal guard rails and what not.
