Greetings,

If anyone could help with this one, been trying and trying to no avail, it's driven me crazy;
I'd ideally like to simultaneously:

a) force a 14pt (aka 0.875em i think?) font size, everywhere. Webpages, Firefox's settings, addons page, tabs, etc. If not everywhere, at least on anything that has to do with actual website content.
+
b) continue to be able to render..see..(?) icons.

Doesn't have to be some same font overriding everyone else's, i only care about size constancy.
Have tried everything i came across by Googleing, and all i get is permanently bloated elements (relative font sizes) when i go the way of *, root, body, etc., while many webpages continue to render at will despite those. This very forum included for example. Uses a 15, no matter what i do.

* Edit: Doable with font-face, but i lose all icons. even with remote allowed.

Not being lazy, this is.. just out of my league; and i thought it'd be simple :)

Would sincerely, honestly, appreciate your help. Truly.
With my thanks for your time!
(i registered to ask here because you guys have an amazing Thunderbird CSS thread going.. so i thought i'd try my luck for Firefox)

Most fonts sizes are dictated by the web site page code itself.

So you're saying it can't be done? :)

You have no control about web site content.
You can use ctrl+ or ctrl- globally but individual fonts can not be chosen at will on external sites by browsers.
Keep in mind that what you perceive as fonts can also involve animation, graphics and other artistic implements.

You can use ctrl+ or ctrl- globally but individual fonts can not be chosen at will on external sites.

Was trying to be polite the first time..
Please don't be "that guy" in the internet :)

It is 100% possible, albeit at the cost of icon rendering. Have done it.

I sincerely (honestly) appreciate your chiming in, but.. with all due and humble respect, you're dead wrong on this one.
If we could perhaps allow others a go at this, i'd be much obliged.
With my humble thanks for your understanding, no offense meant.

No problem, I have written enough web pages and intranet & internet to chime in, and this long before stylesheets (.css) existed.
But since you insist on being right, I must ask you this, if it's possible why can't you figure it out or how come you have not found an answer?
Good luck in your search.

I must say I missed the firefox restriction in the thread title altogether.
I was wrong, not for the first time, I hope I did not mislead anyone.

If you click on the advanced button in Fonts you get another list of what fonts to use.

Screenshot 2026-02-13 080402.webp

Set the fonts like you want them to be then uncheck the box to allow websites to use their own fonts.
Also set the minimum size font to whatever size you want as it defaults to None.

You ask for CSS, very specifically at that, the resident "experts" respond to you with 'General Settings' advice.. Anyway!

As mentioned in the OP, was half hoping the Thunderbird brigade would step in, but all good, worked it out on my own :)

Code:
@font-face {
   font-family: ‘SF Pro Text’, sans-serif !important;
   src: local(‘SF Pro Text’);
   font-style: normal !important;
   font-weight: 350 !important;
   font-size: 16px !important;
   line-height: 1.4 !important;
   -webkit-font-smoothing: subpixel-antialiased !important;
}

@namespace url(); {
    html, body, * {
        font-family: ‘SF Pro Text’, sans-serif !important;
        font-style: normal !important;
        font-weight: 350 !important;
        font-size: 16px !important;
        line-height: 1.4 !important;
        -webkit-font-smoothing: subpixel-antialiased !important;
    }
}

@namespace svg url(); {
    html, body, * {
        font-family: ‘SF Pro Text’, sans-serif !important;
        font-style: normal !important;
        font-weight: 350 !important;
        font-size: 16px !important;
        line-height: 1.4 !important;
        -webkit-font-smoothing: subpixel-antialiased !important;
    }
}

@document url() {
    font-family: ‘SF Pro Text’, sans-serif !important;
    font-style: normal !important;
    font-weight: 350 !important;
    font-size: 16px !important;
    line-height: 1.4 !important;
    -webkit-font-smoothing: subpixel-antialiased !important;
}

@supports (appearance:none) {
   font-family: ‘SF Pro Text’, sans-serif !important;
   font-style: normal !important;
   font-weight: 350 !important;
   font-size: 16px !important;
   line-height: 1.4 !important;
   -webkit-font-smoothing: subpixel-antialiased !important;
}

html, body, * {
   font-family: ‘SF Pro Text’, sans-serif !important;
   font-style: normal !important;
   font-weight: 350 !important;
   font-size: 16px !important;
   line-height: 1.4 !important;
   color: #BBBBBB !important;
   -webkit-font-smoothing: subpixel-antialiased !important;
}

Above as is for my preferences, for my home-baked "dark scheme" (no addons) and on a Retina display (will definitely be hard on the eyes on your average monitor); obviously, one may replace fonts, size, weight, et al to their liking.

Needless to say, the above's in conjunction with:
i) the relevant remote font blocking parameters in about:config
ii) yet again from about:config, the relevant icon exclusion list, as populated by you; Firefox doesn't do it for you, but you can Google for that one.
iii) a Retina display, on a MacOS system. Subpixel AA from the webkit isn't supported elsewhere, so on a Win-doze terminal you'd have to downgrade to plain anti-aliasing (you can Google this too, Mozilla's Developer Notes).

Works even on 'special' websites, such as this one right here, making it harder for no reason :)

* i don't do software, i don't even like software.. this is empirical, not knowledge-derived.
