HI. I need to create a USB windows instalation for a laptop. Do I create a instalation file from windows as there will be drivers on the laptop for display and sound and a complete in format / install would have thes missing. I have done this for my desktop and that works.

If so? Could I use the same USB for the laptop

Okay. I have got a USB for my desktop and I have done a format and install. I never had problem with drivers. Did microsoft find out what was needed and insalled all the drivers?

If so then it should work for my laptop (the laptop will be windows 10 anyway)

Windows often finds & installs the correct drivers. I've never known it get all of them, well, all of them correctly.
I always download & install hardware drivers
- from the computer maker for hardware that was part of the computer when it left the factory, and
- from the hardware maker for all other hardware.
Then I back up my drivers whenever I update any of them so I can just restore them in the unlikely event of a Windows reinstallation being needed [I make regular system images and normally only have to restore one after catastrophes].

Like many others, I stop WU from including hardware drivers because it has been known to get them wrong.

Okay this is an Asus A516JA running W10. So I am going to need a set of drivers to be sure.
On the Asus website for this model, I have a large amount of drivers but I don'yt think I need some of them like a fingerprint reader. This is whats available...

Realtek WLAN Driver
Intel UART Driver
Realtek Codec Console Application
Realtek Card Reader Driver
ASUS Precision TouchPad Driver
Realtek Bluetooth Driver
Sonix Camera Driver
ELAN Fingerprint Driver

On my Dell, HP, Lenovo support sites I enter my serial number so they can limit the list of available drivers & Bios to only those relevant to my specific computer.
I can then download all of them.
Now that I'm armed with them all, I do sometimes choose not to install some of them.

I also get relevant Intel updates by running Intel driver & support assistant. It just sits in my system tray and checks for new Intel updates for my specific computer. It would let me then download-install them all in one action but I generally use their more info links to go to the pages for each update so I can download & save the drivers separately.

I would download them all, including some utilities such as power manager, if any. Once I had to reinstall Windows on my hybrid tablet/laptop Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 (4th generation Intel Core-i5, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, Intel graphics) and Windows Update had found most drivers. However, I prefer the full package to get extra utilities such as Intel Graphics Properties to tweak performance. So I took my time and downloaded everything available from Fujistsu support site. Once I replaced all the basic drivers from Windows Update with the official drivers, and restarted I realized a great improvement in performance! So it was worth my time certainly. In every computer I keep a copy of all the official drivers including last BIOS and update them as needed, so I won't have to go through all this trouble to download them if I ever have to reinstall Windows. Murphy's Law says you will be in a hurry when this happens and the last thing you want is to waste more time to download the drivers, assuming you have internet access. In older computers you didn't have internet access until you installed the LAN driver.

So assuming you have downloaded all drivers and any newer BIOS, the correct order is to upgrade the BIOS, reinstall Windows, install the chipset drivers and then everything else. You will improve compatibility and performance.

People are overcomplicating things. W12 is good at resolving drivers.

Just upgrade to windows 11 as virtually all w10 drivers are w11 compatible.

1) Create an image backup of w10 first in case things go wonky.

2) Download w11 iso

3) Click on iso and run setup.exe

Key drivers will get updated automatically.

Manually update drivers from web as required.

I was talking about a new (aka clean) Windows installation. Of course to upgrade from one version to another you don't necessarily have to update all your drivers, but it is recommended so Setup won't try to mess with your perfectly working drivers during the upgrade. To be extra sure, I always disconnect from the internet during the whole upgrade.
