Hp Envy running Win11 Home for 3 years. No technical issues until I trued to undo this latest update because I don't want Copilot. I used a restore point, then on restart I immediately went to pause automatic updates. But as soon as I finished that, a nessage at the bottom said it was about to start updating again (?) and I forced shutdown. So I'm guessing fircing the shutdown caused the issue?

I was very happy with this machine, but nothing I've tried gets me booted up. I'm running as admin. I'm using the correct recovery key. I've tried everything in Advanced Options.

Error messages include:
Critical process died (0xEF)
The Cleanup-Image option is unknown
There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made
Your current version of diagnostics is not up to date
Every blog article just gets me to another error message. Advice?

Is it worth getting my hands on a USB key with Win11 on it, and how would I do that? This is my first computer without an optical drive.

Thanks. When I used that command earlier, it said it found corrupted files and successfully repaired them and that the changes would take effect on reboot.

Is there anything special or specific I need to do after that? Because each time afterward, I just clised the command window, clicked "turn off your PC," waited til it shut down, and theb I started the computer. On startup I still get the same "Critical Process Died" message, then "Starting Automatic Repair," then Bitlocker, then "Diagnosing Your PC."

Then "Your PC did not start correctly." Then I go to Advanced Options and try again in case the repair is cumulative in some way. Then I try "exit to Windows 11" or whatever that button is called but it just takes me back to Bitlocker.

do you have a back up of the encryption key as you may need to enter that key
to gain entry to your system.

also at the command prompt please try this command please
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

best of luck Steve ..

Yes, throughout this process I usually use the recovery key instead of "Skip this drive" before trying the advanced options or a command prompt. I always make surecI am running as admin before entering command prompts.

I have tried DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

as well as C:\Windows\System32\Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

both produce error 87, "The cleanup-image option is unknown"

Since I'm unable to get to Windows, and this is my only machine, I'm unclear how I could use v2 collector?

Alternate command language to bypass bitlocker might help. I've tried multiple phrases fpund online but they all result in "Thevsyntax of the command is incorrect."

Inputting the recovery key on startup always leads to automatic repair, which always leads to a message about it not being able to fix my system.

I've tried everything in Recovery's Adbanved Options except some of the startup options because I wouldn't know what to do with those since they also lead to the same Recovery screen

1) Please find one or two flash drive(s) that can be formatted and a working Windows computer.

Run the Sea Tools bootable Long generic test > test all attached drives > take pictures > post images or share links.

2) Run Memtest86+ for 8 or more passes > take pictures > post images or share links

Memtest86+ | The Open-Source Memory Testing Tool

Just 1 error is a test fail and testing can be aborted.

The more the passes the better the testing conditions.

It sometimes takes passes into the 20's to detect malfunctioning RAM.

The RAM can be tested all at one time or one at a time in the same DIMM.
