Current version of Thunderbird -- really OK now

I'm not sure what you're saying. My Profile(s) folder has just this in it, and I can't see how to put anything inside that file with good results. But I've read the Net stuff on running them side-by-side, and it looks as though if I install the Beta, it will make its own profile (beta-default, I think), and when I launch the Beta , it will use the beta-default folder, while the release version will use the default-release folder. I'm OK with all that, but I can't imagine how the beta-default folder will get filled if I don't go through the whole auto-configuration thing again for my email host (in this case, GMail, so it's no big deal). Whatcha say?

I copied my stable build default folder and closed Thunderbird.

I then installed the Beta version and deleted the contents of the profile Folder and replaced with the contents of the stable build folder.

No further set up was then needed.

edit: the important point is to relace the contents of the new folder, not the folder itself.

Well, I look at it this way: the worst that can happen is that I don’t get the result I want, in which case I just undo it and try again. If only everything in life were that easy!?!

I used to have time to tinker with Thunderbird, on Linux, to try and forget about Microsoft Outlook.

Now I have better things to do, so I have the £80pa Office 365 subscription, and share it with my Family.

I just have to have Outlook, Word, Excel Powerpoint, they run on my Mac Mini and Windows box, my Linux box now just for coding.

I did not know it was portable. I'll have to check that out. I just switched to Thunderbird for Win-11 because Eudora only works for me on Win-7. I'm still in the process of wrapping my brain around Thunderbird but I like it. Eudora took me a long time to figure it all out as well. It would work if someone could get the security features updated. I would pay good money to keep Eudora. It's been my only email client since the early 90's

Me too -- but I'm on the Linux version so whether thats an issue I've no idea. I got source from git hub and compiled it via standard script and the. mak (make file) -- nice thing about open source -- it's free and can be compiled on any platform although I've 100% not a clue on how to do that on Windows.

There's about 10 zillion config options so it might be some weird setting in how you want messages displayed. My big gripe is still it's hideously awkward to change the default fonts for emails and to try setting up with icelandic characters in the email inbound and outbound server addresses. Managed finally to do that by using the actual keyboard 'Hex' codes rather than displayed text. Email address etc displays properly now but still haven't mastered the fonts thing.

I'm using ENG version of Tbird -- seems the most sensible option.

I've got a JUNK and Junk email folder but that's because I've probably set up the imap folders on the email server a bit "randomly". That's not a TBird defect. at least not if you are using IMAP.

OT but is it only me but the number of junk / spam emails justs seems to be forever increasing --if all these people who have all these "Get rich quick" schemes really could do it the entire planet would be so wealthy nobody would ever need to work again if they didn't want to.

You’re one line ahead of my 102 version. Mine still looks like @jimbo45’s: one line per message, with the name, subject, and date in any order I set. I think that shot from the site is a projection of things to come in the much-vaunted 115. I had 3+ lines in the terribly basic Win Mail app, and that’s the one thing I miss. Tx to both of you for the info.

working fine -- although I'm not a big fan of those dark themes - prefer white or grey backgrounds - thats not an FF / Thunderbird issue though.

As for minimal fast browsers -- try it on a Linux VM -- midori browser -- never heard of it before but zero bloat etc -- although no menu and no toolbar places to stick favourite sites- but as a quick uncluttered browser it works -- I'm probably the only person on the planet who'se tried it

My favourite though is still FF.

Clean, user friendly UI, feature packed..., it's getting really good...

... supports drag-n-drop...

Between Mailbird and Thunderbird, I might just give up on eMClient!!!

Designer of both images says the older one makes him think "Envelope with a wig." It had never occurred to me, but now that I've read it, I can't see the older one without seeing the bird as a cute wig in an 80's and 90's hairstyle.
