Mozilla has a weird schedule! They have a period they call Soft Freeze, about a week before release, where they stop what they're doing and ready any candidates..., then, about a day or two before release is Merge Date or merge release candidates, then there's Release Date.

Absolutely! Put it in your Startup folder in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" to start with Windows, and then, in TB Settings, where you see Incoming Mail ... App Icon Options, choose Unread, not New. New isn't handled well, but Unread works.

Well, here we are well into the 22nd of August and the 117.0b4 version is still not picking the b5 up from the server, even though b5 was posted in the releases list on the 19th. I would understand this better if the b5 existed but hadn't yet been posted on the releases list, but since it's been on the releases list for days now, it sure looks as though somebody's asleep at the switch.

Perhaps they put a hold on it and not let it go to Merge because of some bug....

I'd say yes, that's probably the case. I'd much rather have a working copy, than a buggy one.

Having said that, though, the least they could do would be to let us know if there's a hold . . .

OTOH, we wouldn't be on the Beta channel if we insisted on bug-free versions. I'm still running 102.14 alongside my 117 beta version, and that aging 102 is as solid as a client can be. My 117 still has some trivial bugs (try Settings > General > Fonts and colors > Advanced button for an example), but I keep watching closely for unreported hitches, and reporting them immediately when I find them. Almost always, somebody more watchful than I am has beaten me to the punch. And so it goes.

Oops! I hadn't paid close enough attention to beta vs final.

Since the title of this thread is Current Version . . . maybe there should also be a Beta Version thread? Just a thought . . . Just a suggestion.

... Not to mention the availability of the .mar partials they offer for over-eager updaters who don't want to wait for the released versions to become auto-update available. They're installed from a command-line-interface (CLI) panel, and so far, I've had no problem with them, but they're "not officially supported" (whatever it may mean to be posted as available but "not officially supported.") Anyway, the path to them is from version number > update > bit-rate > language > (choose the version to update from to the version number -- see file names in the shot below), but I've grown patient enough in my old age not to rush into updates that eagerly.

Okaaaaay, here we go again (still)! An absolute mystery obtains here, where the date is the 22nd, and the date on the b5 is the 19th, and nothing is happening in the internal updater.

Yes, Edwin you are correct. The release notes are now out and beta5 was cancelled and beta6 has one change.

Well, @Edwin, here we are a week later than your last post, and there's a new development. Remember that they said 102.14 was the final release of pre 115 Thunderbird?

"From Thunderbird.net today, 02 August 2023;
"Thunderbird 102.14.0, scheduled for release on August 30, 2023, is the final release of Thunderbird 102."
That was a typo. They meant July 30, 2023, and users of Thunderbird 102.13 now have 102.14 running if they accepted the update."

So, today: "Thunderbird 102.15.0, is the final release of Thunderbird 102."

Wella, wella.

I think what's going on is that they're still tinkering with the 102 version to make it possible to update from it (102.x) to 115.x, without causing widespread user screaming (e.g., "I've lost my 180,000 emails from the last 20 years! How do I go back to 102?").

Probably wise to try to avoid all that screaming, eh?
