Custom Icons for Windows 11 Thread (Folders, Dropbox, Google Drive, Podcasts, NVME Drive, Steam, Adobe)

Haven't been getting time to update the Ultimate Icons pack recently, but I'll get to it soon.

Any suggestions regarding a good naming scheme for the Iliad/Free icons?

Hi @Merlot1412

I explained what Free is in my last post. 😊
I named a main folder "Internet Service Provider" and made 2 sub-folders for "Free" (France) & "Iliad" (Italia).

Cheers.

I just want to change the default yellow folder colors to a blue one. What's the best way to do that? With the default folder icons on desktop, you can see partially what's inside (see image below). I want the folder colors blue but also have this preview functionality. Is this possible?

you can use this
- CustomizerGod - just change the default folder to blue
uQpMcpk.jpg
- Go here to download the bat file to clear the thumbnail cache

*You will need W11 Build 22581.1.

Hi @JangOetama,

I wasn't aware of a new thumbnail display for pictures in Windows 11.
Is it the new official one since Build 22581.1 or is it only exclusive with CustomizerGod ?
(I didn't try this software because VirusTotal detects 4 malicious files and I don't particularly need it, although I find it very interesting).

I only knew these 2 separate parts, which never seemed to be used by Windows, but with the alternative app I mention just after.

So I also thought about another suggestion that could maybe suit :

Hello @ParisBridge,

The functionality used in your example is WindowsThumbnailGenerator.
It is a great light and easy portable app that applies picture thumbnails in a customisable way. Though, each assignment is manual.
To download it, clic on the latest release (on the right of the screen) then chose the "Published.zip" folder (79.1 MB).
Consequently, a "Blue version" will have to be created and added by the developer.
In fact, it is not a bad idea, so I submit your request to him.

I recommend CustomizerGod because it looks easy to change these 2 system icons
yes maybe there is another alternative to change these 2 system icons

basically just changing those 2 system icons in (Imageres.dll)...
if only one is better to use 3rd party app WindowsThumbnailGenerator, if want to change totally you can change Imageres.dll...

sorry, I mean build 22557

Could you also apply the same front color to this 2nd small version please ?

@ParisBridge
You just need to adjust the size with the system icon
"256x256, 64x64, 48x48, 40x40, 32x32, 24x24, 20x20, 16x16"

ignore the example, I'm using win 10 to try it, will be appropriate if you use win 11

@JangOetama Do you mean I have to resize the image in a photo editor? I chose the 256x256 option and selected your blue icons but I got the same error posted above.

@ParisBridge You should create an icon group containing "256x256, 64x64, 48x48, 40x40, 32x32, 24x24, 20x20, 16x16"
in one .ico extension, there are several icons with different sizes

Screenshot 2022-03-30 175943.png

so if you choose only 256x256 then there is only one size

@ParisBridge you can use ImageMagick, then use this command on cmd
Batch:
magick file.png -define icon:auto-resize="256,64,48,40,32,24,20,16" file.ico

the same method I use on my github repository Folder11

@JangOetama I was finally able to make it work. Now, just one thing missing is when you create a new folder on desktop and it doesn't have any files inside it yet, the default yellow folder shows up. So, if possible, please make a blue version of this empty folder also.

Here's a version with the smaller blue one added, and all re-positioned as original ones (only "Separate - Back" & "- Front.ico" are originals)
They have very strange positions compared to ordinary original folder (nearly all icons are 1 px shifted to the right except 20x20 & 48x48, and 24x24 is completely on the right), but I respected every size to the pixel, in order not to get any shifts when the picture is added.
You can easily compare the pixel map with IcoFX or other similar apps.

Original folder uses a full front for 24x24, 20x20 and 16x16 which covers the main back folder part, probably because there is no image thumbnail automatically converted by Windows in these smallest sizes. So i kept the same template, but made a try with the shorter yellow folder. But this one may not suit.

Sympa @Tiinox83 !

I have free, I got it all.

View attachment 24536

This is what this crazy guy called Rodolphe used to say 12 years ago to promote the "freebox" in France.
30€ /month for unlimited internet was a revolution at the time. Free imposed this price for all the other internet providers till this day.
Despite Director Xavier Niel's nice "cool attitude", he's surely a pretty special shark. 😄

Tiinox, if the number following your name is the one of your department (and not the year of your birth), we may not live very far away from each other.
I shall write to you soon, en français bien sûr !

Quick update about my "coming not very soon" contribution (!)

I am still working a lot on enhancing small sizes versions of the collection, and I've been learning quite a lot for the last 2 months.
I'll be happy to share my part with you, and explain all the tricks that were made in details.
I guess I still need a few weeks to catch up the rate the icons are released.
Once the main folder set will be ready, I will join a tutorial to learn everything about re tweaking small icons.
Unlikely to what you could expect, there is a lot to know. Images are not just converted but rearranged with many different aspects, 8 times in just one icon. It does take a lot of time, but it is worth when icons can have a large interest.
As you can imagine, this part is pretty difficult, long (boring also !) but sometimes interesting, because many icons are completely different and force you to be tricky and creative. So if anyone is interested and would also want to develop this optional part, no need to go crazy studying everything, the complete tricks will be available in the near future.
A few little surprises will come along with them, but I said enough. 😊

Meanwhile, I'm happy to share with you my request I made to Mr4Mike4 (from GitHub)
who I asked permission for posting here of course.
After his nice remake of the 7zip folders, they are now available in "Fluent Blue".

preview.jpg

Replace the 7z.dll file in C:\Program Files\7-Zip
Clear Icon cache (Various methods. Quick disk cleanup with only "thumbnail" ticked).

If you like, you can attribute an emoji to thank him on his latest release page. 😉

Thank you very much again to the great creators here @JangOetama @Lucas North @spettojim and the others, for your generosity and the quality of your work.

See you ! 🙌

Thanks.
