@Elisyan They are already 256 x 256 buddy, don't think making them bigger is going to resolve your issue.
Additional sizes can be added though.
Here is how I see them...

I checked the icons in page 21 to confirm, they are 64x64 too
Can you share those 256x256 icons?

there are many ways... but I prefer to use vector because there is no loss of quality...
especially the "logo" I got, usually available in .svg(vector) format on the official site...
Example

I'm using the Figma app because Figma always deals with vectors drawing with curves...

but it is not that difficult as it seems, because I only use primitive shapes, like ovals and squares, -- combined. What I am doing is similar to arranging shapes in PowerPoint. because afaik Figma itself is not purposed for illustration, but UI/UX.

Intro to Figma - Beginners guide to Figma Basics - YouTube
Figma in 5 - YouTube

for converting svg to icon, you can use an app. or in Figma itself, there is a plugin for that...

I myself make a bunch of icons which is not a convenient way to convert it manually. alternatively, you can use a batch tool like ImageMagick or something. that kinda stuff that I am using on the Folder11 repo. so now on, I don't need to those converting stuff again.

And also, I do have a template in case you wanna make folder Icons

I have been using Magick to convert my image files from png to ico. If you create an image set of pngs (16.png, 20.png, 24.png, 32.png, 40.png, 48.png, .64.png, 256.png) you can feed that into the Magick CLI using
Code:
magick convert 16.png 20.png 24.png 32.png 40.png 48.png .64.png 256.png -colors 256 icon.ico
.

I have been using Adobe Illustrator to create my base icon images and then Adobe Photoshop and the Icon Board plugin to create the sets at different preset sizes. Hopefully this helps!

First of all, sorry for my bad English, it's not my first language.

Well, I'm just going to complete what @calvinbonner and @JangOetama have already said. Create your icons in some vector based software. You have great paid (Adobe Illustrator and Affinity Designer) and free (Inkscape) options. I create my icons in Affinity Designer, but regardless of the software, the core of creation is the same.

As the friends said, you can get the official logo on the product/service website. I use an addon called SVG Export to get the SVG logos from the websites. If the site doesn't have the desired svg, just googling the product / service name + svg logo (eg Adobe Photoshop svg logo). Lastly, if you don't find the svg logo, you can either recreate it with the pen tool (best result, but slower and possibly harder for novices) or you can trace a high quality image of the logo (this option for tracing is not available in Affinity Designer). If you are going to trace the logo, I recommend that you have a high quality image and, if possible, in PNG with transparency and in B&W.

Once you've vectored the logo, you can edit the icon any way you like. After the icon image is ready, I use a free software called Greenfish Icon Editor, which is very simple and intuitive to assemble the ICO files.

Some additional tips:
- Even working with vectors, I recommend always creating the icons 2x the intended size (create/export 512px artboards to 256px icons)
- Create guides to standardize the size and padding of your icons
- Never stray too far from the color palette of the product/service you want to create the icon in order not to mischaracterize the final icon.
- Complementing the tip above, look for variations (lighter or darker) of the original colors or analogous colors.

And that's it, I'm providing my SVG base folder icon for anyone who wants to create more icons.
Again sorry for my English, and any questions, you can contact me.

Hello all!
First of all Happy New Year!

Is there a possibility that @davidvkimball or someone out there, can make white folder icons of any given yellow icons here from David? If not possible i'm missing the following folders:

- HP OMEN
- iTunes Music (in yellow or white) -->already seen the amazing work of the one inside this thread.
- Collectorz.com website icon in yellow or white (the movie one and music one)
- Another 'games' folder icon
- A 'font' folder icon (because I download custom fonts for Photoshop etc).
- a ''Still Processing'' folder because I save images / videos etc so I can organize them later. More likely it would be like a ''still processing images'' folder , ''still processing'' videos'' folder etc.

Well sorry for my English but I hope someone can help me :)

Thanks!

Hello and first of all, thank you for all the great folder icons already posted in this thread. I would like to request a few additional ones:
  • Rust (the programming language) (either the official logo or the mascot, Ferris)
  • Raspberry Pi
  • something representing “money” on a plain folder, e.g. some coins and/or bills, ideally not any specific currency
  • something representing “work” on a plain folder, e.g. a briefcase
  • a globe with gridlines on a plain folder representing a generic website or browser

Hello Everyone & Happy New Yeay to all of you !

I'm finally back around here after hard and busy times.
I maybe found a way of helping out a bit at my level, thanks to @davidvkimball 's explanations.

Thanks to all you great creators here, using Windows in its 11 edition design is much more pleasant.
Since I've been using these really nice custom icons for a while, even if they are ment to be used (and really enjoyable) with a big size display, I realized they unfortunately appear a bit blurred in smaller sizes (ans sometimes smaller) compared to the original Microsoft folder icons. When a folder has a lot of sub-folders, using small/list/detail display remains commun and practical.

I clearly understood why when I zoomed and compared Microsoft's with custom ones.
Microsoft actually uses different pixels construction for each size, to rightly avoid blur and insure sharp clear edges.
When a image is basically resized, even in smaller dimensions, a bit of blurring is completely normal (it can sometimes be arranged with a "refining edge" trick, but results are not always great, and this will not use the same pixels Microsoft properly uses). It remains obviously useful for all the other aspects (rounded edges, gradient colors, logo shapes) where the conversion really tricks pixels cleverly to keep a nice and correct form.

This editing only concern the edges of the folder, in order to make lines look clear and sharp in all sizes, when displayed next to original/generic Microsoft ones. Here's a little example of how I rework the folder icons to give them the exact same shape as originals.

> IcoFX rework (zoom in or/and press F11 for a correct rending)

You can spot the true difference in the small boxes of the left window.

I expect not all users need their icons reworked as they are usually displayed in 96x96 in explorer (Big icons).
But most of them will be shared and also used a lot in a smaller view.

All the work from creators here is really awesome, and I would be happy to contribute with helping by giving this tip top final aspect it deserve.
I does take a bit of time, so I don't think I'll manage as much as the collection is growing, but surely I could start with the most commonly used.

Note : I had a try with the 128x128 and 96x96, and it is really unnecessary. Automatic conversion in explorer is completely equivalent.
Though, the smallest 16x16 folder must fit all pixels large (no transparent gap).
