Hi folks,

I know DCOM errors can be ignored, but I want to get rid of this one, or at least stop it from appearing in event viewer.

Symptoms: every time I restart or shut down / fresh book my PC I get two red DCOM errors in event viewer under System.

Please help me resolve this. I'd like to either stop the error entirely or prevent it from showing in event viewer.

Thank you!

Here is all of the info I can gather from the error message:
General:
The server {A463FCB9-6B1C-4E0D-A80B-A2CA7999E25D} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

Hi @pepanee

I’ve tried both of the top suggestions and neither work. The first was already configured this way, the second doesn’t appear to have an impact.

I’m not sure I want to disable DCOM entirely because I don’t want to run into issues down the line.

I should add this is on a new / fully updated version of windows 11 24h2 home edition. I recently reinstalled windows.

The errors appear to pop up on shut down.

Thanks for your help :)

I tinkered with this a while back, I gave up. Chasing every error in the Event Log is equivalent to embarking on a snipe hunt! I'd be curious if anyone has ever successfully eliminated every error from the event log. :-)

From all I read, that error is pretty common, and the machines continue to run fine. It's related to your machine trying to synchronize to a resource that is no longer available.

I think this is the case for normal 10016 yellow error, but this is a 10010 red error that occurs every single time I shut down.

Also, this didn’t happen prior to reinstalling windows :(

I’d love to be able to track down the app or service that is causing it, but I can’t seem to find anything with the GUID listed here:

1B562E86-B7AA-4131-BADC-B6F3A001407E

Or the server:

...Chasing every error in the Event Log is equivalent to embarking on a snipe hunt!...
I agree with this statement by John. It is completely pointless to try to resolve every single error in the Event Log. As long as you aren't experiencing first-hand problems with the operating system, then there is no need to figure out how to resolve every error in the Event Log.

I filtered my Event Log with that error, and I see the same thing as you. (There are gaps in the dates because I rarely ever restart/boot-up my computer; I put my computer to Hibernate instead.) Yet every time it is restarted/booted-up, I get those 10010 errors.

This error seems common, and I'm sure many others have these errors in their Event Log.

BUT if you really want to remove those errors, then you can try the last part of my previous post temporarily, and see if everything works well. (You can disable it and see if the errors go away with no computer instability.) If your computer works fine with no problems, then maybe that could be the solution to what you are looking for.

Here is a list of all logged errors on my computer, and I am not experiencing any problems:

Also to add in: This error happens because it is taking time to reach the server it is trying to reach. So it isn't that big of a problem at all.

I think the big issue is that some of the errors really shouldn't be popping up as Errors, maybe Warnings. It is mind boggling how much stuff it logged in the Event Log, I guess it's good if you ever really have a problem. I have solved a couple problems using the information, but most of the time it's best to just not look there. :lmao:

Appreciated the help lads.

Is there a way of disabling logging for DCOM errors?

1) Open Registry Editor.
2) Go to this location:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WMI\Autologger\EventLog-System\{1b562e86-b7aa-4131-badc-b6f3a001407e}
3) Double click "Enabled", and set that to the number 0
4) Restart the computer twice.

See if that removes that error from being logged.

Source (different example):

By golly, that worked! Thanks, man.

(Yep, I know I've just hidden the entry, but still. Nice to see it not cluttering up my error messages when I do a search for them).

Any idea why I had to restart twice for it to take effect?

Glad you got it to work. You're welcome =)

And about the "restarting twice", I just saw it on that reference site that I linked. They said to restart twice with their example. I have no clue why.

I totally agree. Glad we got this forum for all the strangeness. 😄
In case you’re wondering why a second restart is needed (from Google Ai):

A double restart after installing updates in Windows can be due to a few reasons, primarily related to how Windows applies updates and manages system resources. One reason is that updates may be applied in stages, requiring a restart between them to properly load new or modified files into memory. Additionally, the "Fast Startup" feature, which hibernates the system instead of fully shutting it down, can sometimes cause a double boot sequence.
