What is happening

Deep Research is being retired in the Copilot app for consumers starting August 18, 2026.

If you've used Deep Research to create detailed reports and analyses in Copilot, you may have questions about what this change means for you. This page explains what is changing and how to access your existing research content.

What's changing?

After August 18, 2026, Deep Research will no longer be available in Copilot.

Customers who use Deep Research today may see changes to how in-depth research experiences are available within Copilot:
  • Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers can continue creating detailed reports and analyses using Researcher in Copilot.
  • Existing saved research content will remain available, as described below.

Is there an alternative to Deep Research?

Yes. Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers can continue creating detailed reports and analyses using Researcher in Copilot.

Both Deep Research and Researcher help you create detailed reports and analyses. While they are separate experiences, Researcher can continue to be used for in-depth research tasks after Deep Research is retired.

What happens to my existing research content?

Your existing saved research content will not be deleted as part of this change.

Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers

You can continue to access your saved research content through Researcher.

Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers

You can continue to access your previous Deep Research reports through your chat history.

Can I save or export my reports?

Yes. Existing Deep Research reports can be opened in Microsoft Word and saved for future use.

What should I do before August 18, 2026?

No action is required.
  • Premium subscribers will be able to access their reports in Researcher.
  • Personal and Family subscribers can access previous reports in chat history.
  • You can also save important reports as Word documents for future reference.

Does this affect my Microsoft 365 subscription?

No. Deep Research is one feature within the broader Copilot experience. Your Microsoft 365 subscription continues to include the features and benefits available with your plan.
