Windows 11
On Windows 10, I set firefox as my default, set to open on startup and restore previous tabs and it worked.
In Windows 11, it gets reset each time.
I have searched for issues, tried many solutions to remedy issue and NONE have worked.
I have disabled edge in registry as much as humanly possible yet it still resets.
I have disabled all AI and everything I can find that microsoft thinks I should need.

Welcome to ElevenForum.

Type: about:config in the address bar of Firefox.
Respond: yes you'll be careful.
In about:config search for: browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser
Set it to False

In Settings, make sure the things in the RED box are set like this...

In Windows Settings... set them like this...

Here's more Firefox tweaks...

And here's ten points for filling out your computer specs (sort of). :-)

On Windows 11, Edge is much more ingrained in the OS and is considered one of the core components. It is difficult to remove it as your default browser.

If you have the skill set, you could try this method.

Too many laptops with different system specifications.
It isn’t difficul’t to set a defaiult browser at all, but it seems a few people are having iussues with it lately.
There is another recent post about the exact same thing.

For what it is worth, I use the following:

You can generally stop Microsoft from hijacking your default browser preference and forcing you to use Edge (& Bing) with web search results in Taskbar Search, using Edge Redirect (Free) from GitHub

MSEdgeRedirect, will prevent Edge/Bing from hijacking the default browser and search preferences and other scenarios by redirecting requests from Edge/Windows due to Edge Specific Links and disabling their ability to hijack your chosen default Browser or Search preferences.

  • Download and install Edge Redirect from GitHub v0.8.0.0 (At the time of this post)
  • Agree & click Next
  • Select “Active Mode” (I would recommend)
  • Click “Next” It will require one time admin rights.

Win-1799.webp

Select your preferred link/browser preferences:
  • Change the following to “Google”
    • Bing Discover
    • Bing Search
    • MSN News
    • Bing Images
  • Change MSN weather to “weather .com” - If you want to
  • Leave the PDF viewer as default. - If you want to
  • Check “Redirect Windows Spotlight” - If you want to
  • Uncheck “Redirect Windows Store Apps - If you want to

If you don’t use CoPilot, you can also disable it at the bottom. However, CoPilot is now an app now and should be uninstallable via Windows or Revo.

OK, lots to reply to...
GHOT, thanks for the points and info...tried that and it didn't solve the issue.
pewa, if you read my bio info, the skill set...well it is only when I have rummaged thru all the BS online and none of that worked and I have used my 50+ years of computer knowledge and can't find a fix do I resort to asking for any insight from forums which should have the expertise to actually help.
Many of the things you take for granted I had a hand in either building or defining protocols for such things as oh windows os, tcp/ip, internet just to name a few.

OK, NONE of the answers were relevant. I maybe a new member to this forum BUT that said here is a fix that actually works.
Install winget...copy code into powershell

Code:
$progressPreference = 'silentlyContinue'
Write-Host "Installing WinGet PowerShell module from PSGallery..."
Install-PackageProvider -Name NuGet -Force | Out-Null
Install-Module -Name Microsoft.WinGet.Client -Force -Repository PSGallery | Out-Null
Write-Host "Using Repair-WinGetPackageManager cmdlet to bootstrap WinGet..."
Repair-WinGetPackageManager -AllUsers
Write-Host "Done."

run winget from admin powershell
winget list - will list all apps installed

from that list you get the Name and ID.

winget uninstall ID ex. WinGet uninstall MSIX\Microsoft.XboxSpeechToTextOverlay_1.97.17002.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

you can verify uninstall by checking settings -> default apps

that is the kind of deep down fix I would have expected.
sorry if I came off harsh but the responses came off as if I knew nothing but how to turn on or off my PC.
