Windows 11
Running Win11, 22H2, Build 22621.3155 on a HP-i3 1200 desktop PC which is connected to the router via ethernet cable.
Default printer is a HP MFP-M225dn laser printer that is connected to the router via ethernet cable.

On the first print attempt, there is a delay before the print dialog box opens. Printing again without closing the app, there's no delay.
Close and open the app, the delay happens again.
Here's the symptoms:

NOTEPAD:
1. Open Notepad.
2. Click "File > Print":
---- Print dialog box opens but is mostly blank with a scanning progress bar for about 3-4 seconds.
---- Then the print dialog box fills with it's normal data and printing can commence normally.
3. Click "File > Print" again:
---- Print dialog box opens right away normally. Printing can commence normally.
4. But if I close and open Notepad again:
---- Steps 2 and 3 happen again.

LIBRE WRITER:
A. Open Writer.
B. Click "File > Print":
---- Nothing happens for about 3 seconds.
---- Then there's a popup that says "Please wait for printer connection or cancel connection" that lasts for about 2 seconds.
---- Then the popup closes and the print dialog box opens normally and printing can commence normally.
C. Click "File > Print" again:
---- Print dialog box opens right away and printing can commence normally.
D. But if I close and open Writer again:
---- Steps B and C happen again.

My windows 10 tower PC (which is connected to the same router via ethernet cable) can print to the same printer without any delays. It's only on the win11 desktop PC that the print delay happens.

Any ideas?

Normally, when you have an issue like this it is a driver issue. I would go here and get the latest driver:

I would start with just the basic driver. As any of the managed drivers listed might call home before allowing to print. I would also check the firmware that is displayed on your printer to see if matched what is listed on this page. Hopefully, this will get you pointed in the right direction.

After reading your post, I did more googling about the printer driver and found my old thread where I had fixed the same problem on my Beelink mini PC. I had completely forgotten about that incident ... blame it on my old age. That Beelink mini PC had intermittent problems so I replaced it with a HP-i3 desktop PC. Replaced the existing driver in the HP-i3 with the basic driver and the problem is resolved. Thanks!

After correcting the problem on my HP-i3 PC, I came back here to let play2mefish know that his suggestion helped me fix the problem. Then I saw your post which pointed to the same fix. The problem was corrected. Thanks.
