Desktop game shortcut icons changed to web icons

After I installed Firefox, most of my desktop shortcuts for games changed icon to some generic web globe thing. In properties, even if I try to change the icon back, it will not move from the web globe. They seem to be url files and classed as Web Document.
I uninstalled Firefox, but that made no difference.
Any ideas?

Thanks but it's not a Steam thing, I don't think. The icons have always shown correctly until I installed Firefox. The icons point to the correct path and the correct icon but no longer show correctly. This has something to do with the installation of Firefox.

How to I change the association with url files? I've looked in Settings>Apps>default apps, but can't see how do do anything with url.

Thanks but I know where they are stored and the icon is pointing to the correct place. Hitting 'Apply' does not change the icon. Still stuck on the web globe thing. I have uninstalled Firefox but it's made no difference.

No need to repeat yourself.
I would use a restore point to before Firefox install to bring back the file association.
Or use your backup software, whatever you prefer.

Change them to open with the Steam executable which should be found at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" on a default install or re assign them to associate with Edge might work.

Thanks again. I can't see how to change the association with url files. Looked in Settings>Apps>Default but can't work out how to associate url as it doesn't seem to feature anywhere.

Right click the broken icon and click on properties. Then select the tab (web document), change icon and then a window will appear. Click on browse. Find your steamapps folder and find the .exe or application file and click on it and press open.Then select apply and you're done.
And so am I.

Thank you, but as I said above, that doesn't work.
It would seem that I need to associated url with Edge or 'internet browser' but as I said above, I can't see how to do that.

Upon installing Firefox, did you make it your default browser after having created the shortcuts with another browser?

I'm going to go back to restore point, but I'm a bit confused by this. Never seen it happen before.

I restored last night's Macrium backup image and all is now back to where I was.
Nervous about installing Firefox again though.
