Details Pane - How to have the old style windows 10 layout - Multiple files

New member here, and I try explain as much as possoble.

With Windows 10, if i have say a music folder, a d a album had say 10 tracks. I could highlight 10 tracks, and edit certain information in the details pane, ie artist, album etc. On windows 11m this is not possible, and you can highlight all tracks, then click properties, then details. Is there any way to get the old style details pane from Windows 10

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

Personally I like the new style File Explorer for most tasks, particularly now it has multiple tabs. But there still is a way to open File Explorer with the old style ribbon, and that includes the old Details pane. When I need to I use Option One in this tutorial.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

I can do what you describe on Win 11. I can edit alll the stuff I circled in red. I only tried it on some .mp3 files.

A few guesses. Are the files marked as read only? Do you have the correct permissions to edit the details?

Edit: Oh, I highlighted them all then right clicked and chose properties. Same result, different method?

Ok, the answer is yes according to winaerotweaker and Bree above (I see that now I've refreshed the page ;). I've never tried it myself but I do use Winaerotweaker for a great many things, just not that one.

I use Mp3tag, linked to my Discogs account (both free) to manage the metadata for my music files because it creates compatible tags for my mobile devices and car stereos that include album covers. (I have a car stereo with an SD Card slot so my entire music library is in the car too)

To get direct editing of properties in the Details pane in Windows 11, you have two options:

Option 1: Launch the Windows 10 Explorer via the Control Panel or by using my free OldExplorer app.

Option 2: Add the Windows 7 style details area to either the Windows 10 Explorer or Windows 11 Explorer.

Option 2 can be achieved by installing StartAllBack or the free OldNewExplorer. You may also set the Windows 10 Explorer as your default using my free SwitchExplorer tool.

Personally, for MP3 tag editing, I would use one of the many fine MP3 tagging tools available, such as MP3tag, Tag&Rename, TagScanner, Kid3, etc. You can ask an AI, such as ChatGPT, for a complete list.
