There seems to be a lack of dx12 compatible graphics cards for users who don't use them for gaming. At the moment, I will have to be using a GTX750ti as the lower power one I have has died. By todays standards the 750 counts as low end, and my one fortunately doesn't require extra power connections. Some sources say that it can only run dx11 and others, such as Passmark Software say dx12. Will it be ok with W11? And if not, what lower power ones would cope with 2560 x 1440 screen resolution.

Graphic cards are very pricey now but most of them that you can get are Directx 12

According to this: DX12 Video Card List + DX11 Video Card List | Solidly Stated all of the Kepler series cards and later support DX12 in hardware. That includes the 750 and 750ti.

One thing: DX12 drivers allow cards that don't support DX12 in hardware to provide its features by emulation. That may confuse things a bit.

If you want a fairly recent card that doesn't require auxiliary PCI-E power, I suggest the GT 1030. Pascal series.

GTX 1660 and RTX20X0, Turing. RTX30X0, Ampere. The Turing and Ampere cards are in demand by gamers and crypto miners, and hard to get at anything near MSRP.

There are a few GT730 and 710 cards, then a big gap and the high end stuff. One of those is worth about eight of my type of pc.

The GT 1030 is about $50 cheaper than a 750 and can do 7680x4320@60 Hz and is generally a competent card if you're not gaming or mining.

Regardless of the model, all of these graphics cards work fine in Windows 11. For older models without Windows 11 drivers use the latest Windows 10 64-bit drivers and you should have no problems. For older games and applications that use some files from DirectX 9, I would also install DirectX 9.0c runtime to be fully backwards compatible. Some games even need to enable DirectPlay feature, found in Control Panel, Programs and Features, Windows Features, Legacy section. Installing DirectX 9.0c runtime will also prompt to enable the dotnet 2/3 feature, do it.
