I create System Restore points regularly, but clicking twice to get to the System Protection app is one click too many.

Thanks. Like moths to a flame I see. :-) Any reason to think these Win 10 shortcuts will not thrive in the Win 11 environment?

@TonyCzar Just curious. SR is fine and dandy but I hope you are also imaging your system from time to time as a means of protection. There are some jams a system restore won't get you out of,

Thanks for the excellent suggestion. Just today I swapped out all my external HDDs with SAMSUNG T7 SSDs to make that process quick and easy. I use EaseUS ToDo Backup for the deed.

I'm quite sure many know what System Restore is, and how to use, and therefore don't need "backup" drummed in their ear.

And especially since it has been pointed out ad nauseum System Restore isn't a backup app. When I need to test a driver, I use System Restore, not create a backup that I already have for other reasons.

Do we have a forum police force now? Chill, man. I guarantee if I was drumming in someone's ear, my post would have been longer than 1 1/2 lines of text. It's not up to you or anyone else to throw shade on how I choose to answer a post unless I give incorrect information or respond irresponsibly. In that case I welcome correction by anyone and will thank them for it.
Tony is the OP. He accepted my comment for its intent and took no offense, so why should you. It had nothing to do with you.

Right, but I'm also sure you know how to use the app, and what it's for.

I said what I said because every time System Restore is brought up, we get the "use a backup program" police. Sort of like the OneDrive vitriol that finally got put to rest.

And yes I've had System Restore fail on me; stuff happens. Luckily there's more than one way to troubleshoot, and not all require backups.

BTW, Garlin's post (#3) is what I use to create the System Protection shortcut, and then I simply pin to the taskbar for use when needed.

Good luck :-)

That is rather insulting of those who KNOW image backups are more reliable than restore points (provided data is stored on separate drives).

I ditched crappy restore points years ago, and I am always going to advise people to use image backups rather than restore points. That is not police tactics at all - indeed one could say it is socially friendly tactics.

Comments saying that well informed people are using police tactics is more like union thug tactics, telling people not to have an open mind.

That is rather insulting of those who KNOW image backups are more reliable than restore points (provided data is stored on separate drives).
I stand by what I said without remorse or apology.

Peace

I ditched crappy restore points years ago
I do not recall a single time, a restore point would actually help. Thus I disable it ever since.

Let's keep this discussion civil shall we. :alien:

System Restore points are great to quickly undo a "recent" system change to hopefully avoid having to restore a system image or reinstall Windows. There's several things you can do to store more restore points to help make them more reliable. It's not an option for long term changes, but can be great if you create a restore point before making a system change.

A system image is of course more reliable if kept updated, but there's always a place for restore points as well.

Using both options can save you a lot of trouble and time.
