Does anyone use McAfee on here?

I have subscribed to McAfee (McAfee LiveSafe) on my three HP computers. One of them (My mother's) has received the new updated version of the McAfee antivirus software which is: Version: 1.10.231 and the Release name: 16.0 R110.

Since that version was released and installed, when I run a quick scan in which I do every day to just make sure all is well, the scan takes forever. The recent version of McAfee was not like this. It completed quick scans or for any scan for that matter quickly. So, has anyone experienced this that uses McAfee?

Another issue I have is that Microsoft Edge on my HP Laptop & my mother's HP Desktop has been freezing up a lot here lately. I did check for updates for Microsoft Edge, and the Edge browsers were updated but that did not fix the issue with my Laptop in which has been happening for a while on it before the HP desktop had the problem. My HP All-in-One touchscreen desktop seems to be okay with Microsoft Edge for that matter.

Thank you for all of your help!

PS. Sorry, I haven't been on in a while. I haven't had any major issues with my computers or Windows 11 really. Thank you all for keeping me aboard!

The “best antivirus” for most people to buy, it turns out, is nothing. Windows Defender, Microsoft’s built-in tool, is good enough for most people.

I don’t like Defender. I used it some but I could never bring myself to like it. I have trie Bitdefender through my NETGEAR Orbi Mesh Wi-Fi System, I did not like it. I have tried Norton, I don’t like it. I have tried Kaspersky. The antivirus software that always brings me back is McAfee. The interface is more user friendly and it is just overall more upscale feeling to me.

As in running a scan daily? I mean… it may be overkill but it does no harm. I do a full scan and cleanup monthly.

I think you would be better off contacting McAfee support for your issues. It's not a very popular security app here.

McAfee, Norton and all the paid protection use to be a "resource hog" all they did was slow down your computer ! They now make the statement that it no longer does ! We were taught to stay away from pay protection & use what comes with the OS, which is Defender ! I have never paid & will not advise my clients to pay ! JMO .............. and no one said McAfee was a virus !

Also @flashh4

It amazes me that it's only corporates who always seem to use software of a "Questionable" value -- maybe because so many CEO's aren't computer literate and as they say "Birds of a feather tend to flock together" so Snake Oil Sellers probably have a field day with that lot.

We called McAfee -- McAweful -- makes even a Big Mac seem like fine dining.

I'm no Socialist -- but I do despair of all these people wanting "Govt regulation". Would you be happy if it were Putin or Kim Jong Sun (N.Korea) controlling the agenda --

I think not .

Some how I'm often flamed even on these Forums because I repeatedly say that WD on W11 is based on decent high grade military strength security ported down from Ms's Azure cloud server - and 99% of these domestic (not corporate which is another whole ball game) A/V suppliers are living on the days when W7 etc had really hideous security problems.

If you need a load of these extra programs from Malwarebytes to Norton etc - then OK - but don't do it on the basis of extra security or technical stuff. If it gives you peace of mind then that can't be answered on purely technical terms.

WD is probably the best system out there currently for DOMESTIC users on Windows. -- You'd be far better off learning on what current scams are out there currently -- most of which are not preventable by software or any form of A.I currently available - rather than getting into endless discussions on Rootkits etc.

I guarantee that a typical well paid N.Korean hacker (at least 3 people are well paid in that miserable excuse for a country) is far more interested in causing chaos (even if it were more possible to cause more chaos than already exists) in the UK's NHS or the US election processes.

Cheers
jimbo

Edge on my HP Laptop & my mother's HP Desktop has been freezing up a lot here lately
The release version is stable as far as I can tell on my own systems. Something else on the troublesome computers is interfering with Edge (extensions, malware, third party apps, etc) Turn off all extensions and run Edge in clean boot to eliminate software conflicts.
Does anyone use McAfee on here?
Not ever on any system in this house. WD here. I run in the opposite direction of any AV that is as invasive to a system as McAfee. I've had too many instances where McAfee would not cleanly uninstall and that's a red flag for me. McAfee is not the only one either.
The ONLY paid AV I would ever recommend to anyone is Malwarebytes which runs just fine alongside WD in real-time and can be cleanly uninstalled any time.

.
I run a quick scan in which I do every day
Overkill. Any AV runs its own scan, usually daily or however the user has it set to run. If an AV is doing it's job, it requires no interaction with the user.

You know, I came here for help. I did not come here for your hateful opinions. We have our own opinions to what we like. I like McAfee and I am staying with McAfee. Microsoft Defender, I used for about a week, and I never really liked it. Defender has had a lot of backlashes over the years. There is nothing wrong with McAfee. Stop criticizing me for asking for help. This forum used to be so kind, now, y'all are not kind at all. With this being said, I don't think I will be coming back here and yes, I have been a long-time member of this forum as well as its sister forums. Jesse...I just read the whole thread and I did not see anything hateful unkind or rude. Hope you find what you're looking for in the antivirus arena. I'm totally satisfied with defender after using all of them through the years.

Hi jessewilliams56, sorry if thought we were criticizing you we are just from our experience just try to tell you McAfee and Norton antivirus software not very kind to your operating system and that you can use Windows Defender but if you want to use third-party antivirus stay with Bitdefender its much better than those two.

You can also use MalwareBytes.

Replies lost me at mention of Socialism, Putin and Rocket man, interest waned further with N Korean hackers, NHS and the US elections. Quite what any of these ramblings had to do with Edge or MacAfee defeats me, but will wander on my merry way and find a different forum.
