Does one lose oem status once changing to win 11 pro from home

HI, got dell desktop and windows 11 home activated using outlook account verification.
Now got the key and activated to pro version from the generic home version through the same outlook account verification method.
does it loose oem status to get full warranty support

Oem warrant support is pretty much a thing of the past. It never really meant anything much other than if you needed new disks to reinstall you could only get them from oem vendor.

So technically you have probably voided the warranty if inside warranty period.

I always make an image backup of brand new pc, so I can put it back to "as sold" state in case I ever need to claim on warranty due to hardware failures.

So technically you have probably voided the warranty if inside warranty period.

does it not sound correct.
Do the oem want one not to upgrade until the license period?
one can do so many trials and errors if their software or apps are not working.
So, does it mean that users cannot upgrade during the warranty period?
besides, there may be updates from them and microsoft

Yes, you've probably voided the warranty agreement, however, none of us can say for certain unless you read your warranty agreement provided to you by Dell. Most of the time they do not allow any modifications to be made to the original hardware or operating system edition. This does not include updates offered by Microsoft or applications you may have installed. Your system originally came with support for Home / Core and therefore Dell is only going to provide support for that edition.

Don't buy any OEM products from anybody that says that you void your warranty if you upgrade your Windows Edition. That is a ridiculous clause.

They might aswell then also state that no other apps than OEM provided ones are allowed to be installed. That would be a completely useless machine and pointless to buy.

Ofc. if any issues are caused by the user by overclocking, installing questionable apps etc...then the warranty won't cover anything.

Upgrading from Home to Pro or even Pro for Workstations does not alter hardware functionality in any way. Only gives more features within the OS.

For Dell Inspiron 3910 there is a purchase option for both Home and Pro. This means Pro is a supported edition. How you ended up to Windows Pro should not matter (have to read the warranty agreement fine print to be certain though). It would ofc have been cheaper to purchase the OEM Pro edition with the computer rather than getting a separate upgrade license.

No you can not get a refund for your upgrade if you've already activated the OS.

Since the books accompanied sre containg small letters that strains your eyes. I will try a pdf edition for enlarging .
I have applied for 3 year warranty and the process is on.

Dell is still advertising Win10 computers with free Win11, got a new brochure couple days ago. The main take-away I've gotten over the years with OEM software is that the OEMs make deals with the publishers to include the OS with new computers at a reduced cost but the OEM provides the initial support to the consumer, not the publisher. It's pretty much about cost and results, publisher can sell at a lower price as the need for support is less for that initial period of time.

The initial support to customers prety much died out with Windows 7. At one time MS Support would not help people with oem installations but with advent of Windows 8, the official MS iso worked on oem pcs as well as release versions.

Sure you can call Dell support but their support is probably even more limited than MS Support.

Of course, those "in the know" know where to come for real support LOL.

If you have a Windows issue they might offer support, but you might be asked to pay for that, they are not going to do it for free (unless you manage to solve the issue by consulting their forum). If you ask for a Technician to come at your place or you send the device, you will be charged for software issues. The hardware (hard disk or SSD in this case) is therefore independent of the OS installed. You could format the disk and install Windows 10 or Linux, or even Mac OS creating a Hackintosh. If the disk fails (health less than 100%) they should replace it under Warranty. Of course they will not take a backup of your data, this is your job, you will get a new disk with Windows 11 installed and drivers. Probably they will also install the bundled applications, nothing more. If you have not taken a backup, say goodbye to your data.

Unfortunately, some vendors use any excuse to invalidate a warranty which is bs of course.

Hi, I fully understand now. I have applied for extended warranty to three years .
So, hardware warranty will be extended to three years if i change the OS, as you say the warranty is only for hardware.
But a person from dell care has informed me such, that the OS should be home if the warrantly is to be given. You might have noticed that a user has replied that change of os also meant void of warranty.

If anyone denies you free repair under Warranty, you can make a report to the Customer Protection Institution (I don't know how you call it in your area) and eventually they will be forced to comply. Here in Greece, Lenovo has a bad reputation regarding respecting Warranty terms. Dell is very good along with HP.

Just a thought. They can deny you support for Windows 11 or Linux or any other OS, but if there is a hardware issue covered under Warranty, they cannot deny repairing or replacing it. So yes, if you call for support regarding the OS they might not help you, but any hardware issue they must do so. Don't worry, that's why this forum is for. We can provide support for Windows 11. Who needs them.

This has nothing to do with warranty and everything to do with the type of licence. If you bought the is pre-installed from Dell as an OEM licence the licence is probably not transferrable to another PC at a later date. An upgrade to Pro should make it a Retail licence which is transferrable to a new PC.

Actually, if you read the EULA, an upgrade of an oem licence does not entitle a user to a retail licence.

Clause 4A

Software preinstalled on device. If you acquired the software preinstalled on a device (and also if you upgraded from software preinstalled on a device), you may transfer the license to use the software directly to another user, only with the licensed device.

The OP purchased the PC, and it was supplied with Home Edition, which is where the EULA you quote applies. He upgraded to Pro by buying Pro, albeit from Dell, which I read as having purchased a Retail version.
