Windows 11 Pro - version 24H2
I just calibrated my monitor, an Asus ROG Strix XG32WCS and thought I'd update the driver. So, I decided to go to the Asus website, find the driver, and install it from that. But of the three files, none are labelled "setup" or anything that I can double-click. There's an .inf file that I can read, but it only gives technical information.

Like I said. Go to device manager, find the monitor, update driver, direct it to the folder with the .inf file.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
The trouble with installing directly from a .inf file, is that it has been known to overwrite newer drivers.
Updating via device manager, you should be (from memory) alerted that there is a newer driver already installed.
This has been my personal experience.


Mike, you could also look in:

Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates.
Drivers can be ready to instal, via optional updates, depending on your settings.

Right click on the *.INF file > Install. It is labelled as Setup information in the description.

It is not a driver as such, but Calibration Profiles. The driver is generic

You will not see anything different in the Device Manager as you can see it is identified.

A lot of monitors download and install those automatically, you may in fact already have those profiles.

To see what Profiles you have:
Control Panel > Colour Management > Devices or All Profiles Tab to see the various ICC/WCS profiles

Okay, this is strange. Until a moment ago, when I right-clicked on the .inf file, I got the standard Cut-Copy-Paste menu, as shown in screenshot 1. Then when I right-clicked on the same .file, I got the menu that includes the Install option, screenshot 2.

I realise that in first screenshot I drilled down from the zip file into the drivers folder to the file. In the second screenshot I had moved the driver's folder and then got the different menu. Sorry for wasting your time.

I did that also before contacting you. It kept giving me the message that the most current driver was installed.

You can't do much from within a compressed file mate.
