I wasn't keen on using the major players like rainmeter, stardock software etc on my systems because of resource usage. So I went the lightweight route. the things I use are Power Start Menu which gives you basic but useful start menu settings like transparency, remove the "recommended" area and a few other things. The next thing would be Transparent TB which gives you taskbar modifications. The last thing I use is Files. this gives me a modern and clean file explorer. All three give me some customization without the heavy software running in the background.
