I was watching a video in Edge, and this popped up. Does anyone know why this happen or how I can continue watching the video? I'm guessing that if I reloaded the page, I could start over but will it happen again?

I cannot play any online games as getting the message 'Microsoft Edge removed this ad as it was using too many resources on your computer'. I don't have any adblockers or extensions

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

I'm not running any ad blockers in Edge. This is on my old PowerSpec desktop running the latest Canary build. The Edge version is the latest Edge release build. I've never had this error before. I wouldn't care if I could skip the error and continue the video. The Problem is that I don't see any option to continue.

To those who are suggesting ways to skip the ads, I appreciate it, but that's not the problem. I know the ads help pay for the content to be made available and don't have a problem watching ads to help tke poster get paid. What I want is to continue watching the video. I have watched other videos from this poster and didn't run into this problem. What the heck could this ad contain that would use up so many resources? Giving it more thought, could this be stopping malware or a virus from being downloaded?

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

I haven't tried it yet. I've been watching some of the Sidetrack Adventures videos in Firefox, and I haven't had any problems. What I'm going to do is watch a few Sidetrack Adventures in Edge again and see if it happens again. If it does, I'll try the suggestion in post #6. I've probably watched thousands of ads on Edge and never had this error appear.

@Bree, I watched two videos including the long, boring ads. Everything played without any errors. I'm now wondering if it was a problem with the ad and not with Edge.

I find that if watching a video on YouTube, refreshing will take me to the same timestamp. Vary, very rarely have I been made to restart the video.

I tried all I could think of, but couldn't get the error box to close. I had to do a forced shutdown of Edge to get it to close.

Edge used to have flag Heavy AD Intervention (Unloads ads that use too many device resources).
It is probably incorporated into System Settings, like Efficiency mode or Performance detector.
