Edge: Just how nasty can Microsoft get !!

I'm perfectly happy with Firefox as my primary browser. I keep Google Chrome around in case there's a compatibility issue and I want to check to see if it's a browser issue, that's the only time it's used. Occasionally Edge pops up when Windows links to it, but other than that, I never use it.

Funny because I hadn't even opened Edge since my reinstall and I had that message when I opened Edge for the first time yesterday..

The most annoying issue I've had with Edge was about 5 months ago when one of the browser updates had a bug and disabled all my custom settings and worst of all zapped all my extensions including my password manager. Wasn't MS being nasty, just a software bug.

I never use Edge, in fact I usually disable (Not uninstall) Edge due to Edge Specific links.

I prefer Firefox and disable Edge because when doing something like a taskbar search, any links in those results will open Edge and hijack your default browser. These are “Edge specific links” Basically any browser link tied to/within Windows OS, are Edge Specific Links and will open Edge and ignore even God, to do it..

So don't uninstall Edge (It causes issues) Just stop Microsoft from hijacking your default browser preference and forcing you to use Edge (& Bing) with web search results in Taskbar Search, using Edge Redirect (Free) from GitHub

MSEdgeRedirect, will prevent Edge/Bing from hijacking the default browser and search preferences and other scenarios by redirecting requests from Edge/Windows due to Edge Specific Links and disabling their ability to hijack your chosen default Browser or Search preferences.

• Download and install Edge Redirect from GitHub v0.8.0.0 (At the time of this post)
• Agree & click Next
• Select “Active Mode” (I would recommend)
• Click “Next” It will require one time admin (UAC) rights.

Select your preferred link/browser preferences:

• Change the following to “Google”
  • Bing Discover
  • Bing Search
  • MSN News
  • Bing Images
• Change MSN weather to “weather.com” - If you want to
• Leave the PDF viewer as default. - If you want to
• Check “Redirect Windows Spotlight” - If you want to
• Uncheck “Redirect Windows Store Apps - If you want to

If you don’t use CoPilot, you can also disable it at the bottom. However, CoPilot is now an app now and should be uninstallable via Windows or Revo.

• Click "Save"

Since I've used only Edge for the past 5 years, I religiously do all of the Edge updates as soon as @Brink announces them. That didn't happen to me.

Same message when updaing to Edge 150 stable, clicked and moved on.

I'm at version 150.0.4078.48 and I've still never seen the message.

Uninstalling Edge doesn't cause issues if you set your home region as a EU Country. Not sure how many times this has to be said. I uninstalled Edge and Copilot and I don't have any issues whatsoever because I chose to enjoy the freedoms of the EU DMA. Microsoft are obliged then to let you uninstall Edge without breaking anything. Those of you outside of the EU who prefer not to make use of EU Digital Markets Act (literally anyone can) and stick with your home country region, then if you attempt to remove it, it probably will cause issues. It's entirely about choice.

Completely removed Edge, Copilot, Web Experience Pack, Microsoft Store, etc..., no issues.

Seriously? Why would it even bother you having your region set to another country? If you can make use of a Digital Market Act that doesn't force MS programs you don't want on your PC without having to use third party tools etc, why wouldn't you? I mean, it's not like you even have to live in the EU
