Solved Eliminate bookmark double spacing in Chrome.

I've just installed Chrome on my new computer and see that the bookmarks are double spaced. A few months ago, I saw the same thing on my old computer and found a solution on the net. Now I'm looking for the same solution.

One suggestion was to add "–disable-new-menu-style" to the end of the link that loads Chrome. This didn't work in either the old or new computer.

The second suggestion was "In chrome://flags/ find Power bookmarks side panel and disable it...". Power bookmarks side panel doesn't exist in my Chrome.

The third suggestion was "In chrome://flags/ find Customize Chrome Side Panel and disable it...". I did this but the bookmarks remain double spaced.

Any other suggestions?

I had this and found a fix. Hunting now. Back in a jif.

Try this:
Chrome://flags, and type in Chrome Refresh 2023. Disabled. I think that'll do 'er.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

Please post a screenshot of your double-spaced bookmarks. I think maybe evry suggestion you've tried has missed the mark because we aren't sure what you're seeing that you want to change.

Only thing that changes is the thickness of cascading menus...

This is a screen capture from my Win 10 machine. That's the spacing that I want.

Thanks. Wish I could help, but no. At least it's clearer now that you don't like the fact that your bookmarks bar icons are farther apart horizontally, and your drop-down menu entries are farther apart vertically.
A few members are dropping by to see what this is about. Maybe one of them will have your answer.

Thank you for the suggestion. I already disabled that flag but it didn't reduce the spacing.

Sorry we haven't been able to find the fix for your spread-out views. By now, you've disabled half of Chrome's settings, and still no joy. I've spent some time hunting, but what I've found is either old, not-quite-relevant, or disappointing in some way.

One idea was to disable (chrome://flags) customize-chrome-side-panel. Nope.

Another: disable Chrome WebUI Refresh 2023. Nope. That's the older version of the one I had you try above.

A kinda quasi-explanation for the spread:
"That is Google's "mobile first" policy. Everything needs to be touch friendly. That's why 50% of the Internet has become white space."

Anyway, welcome to the forum, and I hope we can help you with other things in the new year.

Yes, that worked great for me, thanks. Back to the old school close spacing.

It's a long story but I've had a number of problems setting up my new Win 11 computer. It involved a couple of restores to factory settings.

Anyway, as Wisewiz suggested, I disabled "Chrome://flags, and type in Chrome Refresh 2023" on my latest restore and it worked. I now have my compact spacing on my bookmarks.

But, but, but with Chrome, the fix might only be for a few days.

I believe that I did mark the thread solved.

I don't understand the reason but the first time I applied the solution in post 3, it didn't work. After the computer was reset to factory because of other problems, I applied the fix again and it worked.

Thank you for the suggestion on "like". I've now done that. Sorry, I'm so wrapped up in getting my new computer set up that I neglected this step.
