email notification sound

Can anyone tell me if the last Windows 11 update included a strange "deep pop" (best explanation I can give!) sound for incoming email?
I suddenly have this sound every time I get a new email, I have tried turning off all sounds and it still happens.. It's driving me nuts and the only thing that has changed on my computer is the latest windows 11 update!

Try turning mail notifications off
Settings>System>Notifications>Notifications from apps and other senders>scroll down to Mail and toggle off

I just turn off 'allow notifications to play sounds'.

Thank you for both replies. Turning off all app sounds isn't really an option for me because I like the sounds. I like the notification for my email, just not the silly pop sound that has randomly started.

I don't use the Mail app, I use OE Classic, but that was also a good suggestion, it made me go and check to make sure it was disabled.

I also checked my speakers thinking that they might be the cause, but it still happened with headphones and the speakers turned off!

I really don't know what else to try, so if anyone has any other suggestions, I am all ears!

If you use a Microsoft account email do you still have the old Mail and Calendar app installed? It might be that. You can now uninstall it. You can also uninstall the new Outlook app that supersedes it and have just OE Classic installed that has the setting to turn off sound notification .

Well, I tried all of the above, but in the end my son suggested that it might be something to do with the Realtek Audio driver. So I uninstalled the whole thing, and reinstalled it. It worked for a day and then the noise was back, so I uninstalled it again and uninstalled the driver again too, and then when it was reinstalled I rolled the driver back - interestingly, the rolled back driver date was newer than the updated driver date.

So far the noise has not come back - keeping my fingers crossed!
