Accessibility Enable or Disable Include Screen Reader Audio in Live Captions on Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off including screen reader audio with Live Captions for your account in Windows 11.

Live captions helps everyone, including people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, better understand audio by providing automatic transcription. Captions are automatically generated on-device from any content with audio. The captions position can be displayed at the top or bottom of the screen, or in a floating window. The caption window can be resized, and caption appearance can be personalized by applying or customizing a caption style. Microphone audio can be included, which can be helpful during in-person conversations.

Starting with Windows 11 build 26340.9482 (Experimental 26H2) for Insiders, Live Captions has a hidden experimental Include screen reader audio toggle.

If you don't have the Live Captions Include screen reader audio setting in the build above yet and would like to test it now, then you can use the vivetool command below to enable this feature.

vivetool.exe /enable /id:63390782









1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on Accessibility on the left side, and click/tap on Captions under Hearing on the right side. (see screenshot below)



3 Turn on or off (default) Include screen reader audio for what you want. (see screenshot below)


4 You can now close Settings if you like.

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 If you have Smart App Control turned on, you will need to unblock the downloaded REG file.

6 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

7 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

8 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.
