This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable context menus on the taskbar for all or specific users in Windows 11.

The taskbar is a horizontal bar at the bottom of your desktop in Windows 11 that shows the Start menu :win:, Search, Task View, Widgets, Chat, File Explorer, Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Store icons aligned to the center by default. The taskbar corner includes the notification area icons, Quick Settings (Win+A), and Notification Center (Win+N) with the clock and calendar.

The taskbar context menus include:
  • Right click on taskbar for Taskbar settings.
  • Right click on the Start button or press Win+X to open the Win+X Quick Link Menu.
  • Right click on an icon on the taskbar to open its Jump List.
  • Shift + Right click on an icon on the taskbar to open its context menu.

You must be signed in as an administrator to enable or disable taskbar context menus.

Hello,

I just upgraded to W11 Pro from W10 Pro and I am no longer able to right click on the upward pointing carrot in the system tray area and get the context menu to pop up with the usual options like in W10. I have tried both of the methods above but still do not get the contxt menu pop up. Any suggestions? I am the only user of my computers and an admin on the machine.

Thank you,
WonderWoman

Hello, :-)

It sounds like you are referring to the carrot for the taskbar corner overflow menu.

Unfortunately, you can only click on the carrot. Right click has no function.
