Solved Enforce Child Hours?

Is there any way to enforce times my child can use the PC as it's getting totally out of hand now with school holidays (found her sound asleep in the PC chair at 6.30am this morning!) - I don't want to use MS Family Safety as I'm not using a MS account. She's currently got Admin rights to save her from bothering me all the time about installing apps etc, so I'm guessing if this is possible I'd have to revert her to a standard User account? The PC is running Win 11 Pro..... Group Policy Editor maybe?

Cold, hard, cruel facts ... this would suggest a lack of parental direction, appropriately applied would resolve this issue of time usage

Alternatively, remove the device from the personal space, put it in a more public area of the residence where greater control could be enforced

Plenty of software around, but it's a bit like Microsoft and Windows ... as soon as a control is introduced that the user don't want/like, they'll find a way around it

Restrict internet for specific hours on the router, there is not much to do on a computer or on a phone without the internet.

Perhaps your router will allow restrictions based on her machine's MAC address? How old is she? You can put more restrictions on a nine-year-old than a 15-year-old!

If you share your computer with multiple people, you can use this guide to set time restrictions to their accounts using Command Prompt on Windows 10.

Keep in mind that signed in users won't get kicked out of their accounts in the event they signed in within the allowed time. This is only to prevent users from accessing an account outside of the time limits.

Perhaps you need to set some rules and be firm. I think it unwise to give a child admin rights but I am not a parent!!!

Guide: Restrict a Normal Windows 10 Account Login Hours

Update March 2021: One final point that I didn’t originally mention - the account that you want to be logged off automatically cannot be an Administrator account. You can instead have an administrator account that is separate, that you use to do thing that require elevated privileges.

A decent router will allow you to restrict a specified MAC address

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

Yes, but restrict on MAC not IP address as the latter can change. You may need to secure the router in a locked cupboard as any savvy young person would just factory reset the router.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
It's much simpler just to use the net user {account name] /time: commands

I just set net user marti /time:M-F, 07:00-08:00, 12:00-1300, 1800-22:00

Seems that this works on MS and local accounts.

It only works on local accounts.

But as the child has admin rights she can just clear the restrictions.

If she's a tween or a teen, that may complicate matters.

OK, no option to restrict based on MAC on crappy Vodafone router...... onwards and upwards..... she's going back to a standard user account anyway, so will make things easier - about to look at the 'net user' option.....

net user /time did the trick (and she's been reverted to a standard user).... had a look at GPE but the command line option just seemed easier..... Thanks to all.

But that won't log her out at bedtime. It will prevent her logging in within a restricted period, but once logged in, she can stay logged in forever.
