Solved Epson Ecotank printer ET2812-- easiest setup yet

Epson seems to have got installing printers the easiest yet -- After unloading package, installing the ink tanks (really simple job) , adding paper and switching on -- enable wifi and just did the network install -- worked first time in a few minutes -- including scanner, ocr and photo app. No need to mess about with USB cables - even if your computer is on a wired LAN.

Note though the password to enter on ist setup is the product's serial number.

Compared with HP this is a doddle - works on my VM's too. Currently using on a physical machine W11 PRO latest Canary build.

More hardware and drivers should be this easy to install !!!!

BTW these sorts of printers withtanks are much more economical than "classical ink jets" and the heads don't dry out etc etc. If you need photo quality color printing then these are the sort to go for. Lazer printers are fine -- but really expensive if you want color quality photo printing. I still like to print some color photos at home these days.

I can't decide which EcoTank to buy; the Epson website is not very helpful even using the comparison tool, it's not clear what separates the many models. My Canon is beginning to fail to load paper and I doubt cleaning the rollers will help much.

Cant help you on that one -- but the eco-tank ET2812 is quite cheap - decent sized and cheap re-fillable tanks and decent print and scan quality. Depends on the volume of print you do -- I've no complaints with this one -- up to A4 size. Prints decently quickly too -- and is also very good for small photos as well (4 X 6 etc) on glossy paper.

My experience so far with this one is fine - but do get wifi model -- anything to remove loads of cabling etc and it's also convenient to set up as a network (shared printer) or just use between different computers if you only run one computer at a time.

My Canon Pro 100 A3 photo printer died. I'm going to replace it with the Epson Eco Tank ET-8550. It's quite expensive but eventually works out cheaper than the Canon Pro 200 in reduced ink costs.

A3 and A3+ photo quality printers are quite expensive these days compared with A4 size. Depending on whether you do a significant amount of photoprinting at A3 at home you might find it far cheaper in the long run to buy an A4 printer and use a lab for those times when you want an A3 print. I used to do a lot of A3 printing but these days just use a lab for that stuff.

In May 2018 I bought an Epson Ecotank ET 4750, a WiFi model with a scanner and document feeder. I have no complaints, it's still working well and reliably.
