Solved Error I've Never Seen

Windows 11 Pro Version 25H2 (26200.6901)
So, this is a new one for me that I've never seen before. I don't use Notepad very often on my PC. However, when I went to start it using the Start --> Run --> Notepad, I was greeted with this error: error code execution cannot proceed, microsoft.ui.winowing.core.dll was not found.

I've already run SFC which found some corrupted files and DISM. Rebooted and all the usual stuff.

Install Notepad++ and point the TXT files to it.

If you really want to get this working, a repair install is probably the next step.

No other Apps give you any issues?
Have you tried logging in as another user and try to launch notepad?
You could enable Administrator if you do not want to create a new user.

Yup I have and it gives me the same error. I'm thinking at this point I have some corrupt windows files and may need to try a repair.

Okay well I solved the issue. I'm still puzzled by it however I went to Apps > Advance app settings > App execution aliases. Scrolled down to notepad and turned it from On to Off. For some giggles I tried notepad again from Start -> Run -> Typed in notepad and it worked.

I'm sure that's not the way it should go, but hey it's Windows... anything can happen 🤣

You just switched from the newer Notepad, based on the Windows App Runtime, to the classic Notepad in the System32 folder.
