Excel file problem

On my desktop I have excel file. If I double click the file it will not open. If I use the same file on another PC the double clicking works.

If use Excel program to open the file then on both PC the file opens.

Can any body please assist!

Probably the operating system does not 'know', that .xslx files should be opened by Excel.
I suppose .xlsx is the extension of the file, .xls is possible as well.
Or what is it?

Could you please specify somewhat more about in what version of Excel you're trying to open it and what the extension of that excel file is?

When you right click the file and choose "Open with", you could change the app that is used to open the document. Did you try that already?

And last question: is this happening with any Excel file on your desktop or only this one?

Just check that you haven’t lost the file association as Kees suggests.

Scroll down this page until you get to the table and click on both the XLS and XLSX files. They are reg files that will re-associate.
Save them to your desktop and double click to run or right click and select Merge. Agree to the questions.

Try the Excel file again
