Excel tip wanted - link to a url

Hi folks
Any quick way to add a URL link to columns in an EXCEL spreadsheet -- I don't want the whole URL as this could be quite long - but a single link for instance just say a short field e.g URL1, Url2 etc. This could then point to a different table containing the real long Url which presumably some vbs or other code could launch a browser to the target destination .

Excel / office Gurus ??? any help appreciated here please.

Not sure I understand, but here goes: you can right click any cell, select 'hyperlink', then set both the URL it will go to and the display text in separate fields


Note that this is Excel 2010, but I doubt it has changed much. When the cell is clicked, it should open your browser immediately - no VBS needed. hth, Martin

Just use insert a link and paste the link address. You can insert your own name in the dialog box if you don't want the long web address

That's more like it -- some URL's can be hideously long e.g some times if using Amazon shopping links etc. !
Never thought of it -- need to get back to the old K.I.S.S principle a previous US president (I think it was Reagan) used. !!!
