Previously when right-clicking on an image in explorer you could choose to open it in Photos but I preferred the Preview option. It opened a window that was a simple preview image viewer. It had a few options like rotating but was nothing more than a viewer really. That seems to be gone now. Does anyone know how to bring it back?

I believe that was a Windows Photo Viewer feature...

THANK YOU !!!!

That explains why I couldn't find it. Although the right-click menu said Preview, that wasn't the name of the program. As you said, it was called Windows Photo Viewer. I find it much cleaner, quicker, and more useful than the 'Photos' application when all I want to do is view it (and navigate amongst pictures in a folder with the left/right keys).

Yes, it is configurable. I still use Picasa Photo Viewer for preview, even though Picasa is no longer supported by Google. It's a matter of habit and has some disadvantages: Picasa doesn't support new file formats like HEIC, which cannot be previewed, instead they are opened in Photos. But I don't have a lot of them.

You can change the moniker of that entry if you wish...

I still use Picasa Photo Viewer
Same here! It's so nostalgic I don't want to get rid of it!
Plus, Picasa has one of the most pleasant Screensaver engines.
Picasa doesn't support new file formats like HEIC, which cannot be previewed, instead they are opened in Photos. But I don't have a lot of them.
I use FastStone for everything, including .webp's, however, I have so many .heic's from my phone that I need to use XnView.
