OK .. I didn't think about the lockdown(we never really cared and had bbq's etc as unusual - we are all vaxxed now so all good ) but appreciate that so... sorry if my comments were crass in that respect.

I was a member for a short time whilst my parents were at end of life as it was the best way to communicate to the rest of the family - as soon as practical I removed my account - or at least I tried to remove my account - and this simple task was made very difficult, with automatic reinstatement of the account if I ever opened the page - never purposely but sometimes I would follow a link and end up on the site.

In the end I overwrote everything I could not delete and setup as many blocks as I could.
Still today IF i landed on the page the account would still be active .

It's also a major PITA to control for businesses. I have been asked at times to prevent staff accessing social media at non authorised times by the owners of small businesses and the normal method of blocking IP addresses in the system was not totally successful, in the end I used a specialist company that employed human beings to use FB and harvest all the connections and add them to blocks. these days I believe they are using AI as it can act more quickly

My wife is carrying on as if she lost her best friend in fakebook (er Facebook).

I don't even own a Facebook account, so I didn't know about an issue until she started complaining. Accidentally running across this thread now explains it. I guess I better show her this thread since as anyone who's married/have been married knows.... it's always your fault when something goes wrong o_O

Apparently it's said that someone at Facebook accidentally messed up their own internal DNS by messing up their Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). As a consequence even their internal door access systems are down, meaning they can't get into the server rooms to fix it....

It was a lifeline for some rural areas. We have a village group page where we were able to keep in contact and post updates. Very handy.
