Solved Fences 6.0 (Released 5/28/2025)


Fences 6 introduces tabs, a feature that allows you to place multiple fence groups together in a tabbed experience for a modern layout. And with the ability to dynamically add and remove tabs, Fences 6 continues to elevate the bar as the best desktop organizational tool for Windows.

With the Fences 6.0 release today, we are creating this thread so that users can report any observed issues.

Reporting an issue​

Please include the following for anything found:​
​
  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)
  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen
  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful. Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post. Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.
  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions. If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

Fences 6.0 Changelog (Released 5/28/2025)​

  • Added the ability to drag and drop directly onto the Folder Portal tab headers
  • Changed: Tab colors are now on by default
  • Fixed issue relating to Peek performance when using a solid color desktop

  • New: Added ability to drag & drop directly onto a tab
  • New: New option "Exclude all icons that are outside of Fence groups from quick-hide"
  • New: Tabs now appear in different colors when a Fence is assigned a custom color
  • Fix: Fix for tabs spontaneously undocking at startup
  • Fixed: Can now switch tabs when desktop is locked (via legacy option)
  • Fixed: Tabbed Fences could momentarily show the previously selected tab showing during Page switching
  • Fixed: Improvements to RTL language support

I'm running Fences 4. I'm not sure it's worth the money to upgrade or if I even want to. Mine's not broken, so why replace it?

Many people with the same mindset. I can’t argue your logic. I think the same often with some software.
