I just noticed today that when I open File Explorer, I no longer can view my devices and drives and my desktop, downloads, documents pictures and videos folders all at once. Any ideas why?

currentlyScreenshot 2022-06-15 173336.jpg Just see Devices and drives, can't get folders to also show.

... not a frickin clue! 🤷‍♂️
It's the new and improved File Explorer. Think I'll stay with the Files app from the MS Store.

Tried Files app, nice but not the smoothest (at least for me) is there an option to show the details pane?

I'm not an insider so it hasn't reached me yet. Out of a habit of having my personal folders listed above my drives for years, that's the way I'm accustomed to accessing them, more so because it's easier to click on a big icon than a list view. But I've always thought it was kind of redundant to have them there as well as in quick access.

Just create a "This PC" shortcut and pin it to the taskbar...

This way you get everything and don't have to use the File Explorer icon on the taskbar ;-)

"This tutorial will only work if you have the new File Explorer with tabs and navigation updates starting with Windows 11 build 25136 and build 22621.160 for some."

I have this version of Windows, but I'm one of the few unlucky people who got the new File Explorer without tabs (Microsoft only releasing to a few, not all)

As I understand the change, the new File Explorer comes with tabs + revised layout as one update. I have 3 PCs at home where two have the new change and third does not, and that PC has the old File Explorer layout. Whereas the other two PCs are fully compliant with Windows 11, the 3rd PC does not match the CPU requirements. Will be interesting to see if this is why it hasn't been enabled.

Beat MS with third-party apps. I agree! StartAllBack! Worth it! I have Windows 11 running on an old Toshiba Satellite Pro A210 fully updated and running with Start All Back.
