Hi Guys,

I thought I'd left all of my Windows networking issues back in the past, but apparently not!

I recently upgraded my wireless router and since then I haven't been able to connect to file-shares on a laptop (running Windows 11) from my Windows 10 desktyop PC (connected to the router via ethernet cable)

I can connect to all the shares on my other 2 desktop PCs (ethernet cable) and also a wireless desktop PC (Windows 10) and each of these computers can also see the shares on my main desktop computer.

I can see the name of the laptop in Windows Explorer, but when I click on it, I get the usual delay, then an error saying "The network path cannot be found".

I can, however, see and access all of the other PC shares from the offending windows 11 laptop.

When I run network diagnostics on my main desktop PC, it does find an issue with the connection to the laptop:

"file and print sharing resource (LAPTOP1) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts.

The remote computer isn’t responding to connections on port 445, possibly due to firewall or security
policy settings, or because it might be temporarily unavailable.
Windows couldn’t find any problems with the firewall on your computer."

At least this is something to work on, I guess.

Can anyone suggest with setting to check / change on the Windows 11 laptop?

Cheers,

Mike.

Go to settings-network and internet-wifi-make sure network profile type is set to private.

If that didn't work attempt to reset your network connection. Open a command prompt and type following commands one at a time
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset
netsh advfirewall reset
Restart computer

Once again open a command prompt and type:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

If this does not help attempt to access sharing using the ip address.
On Windows 11 computer open command prompt and type ipconfig /all
Find your ipv4 address and make note of it

On Windows 10 machine in search box type run then click on run app in search results
In RUN box type \\xxx.xxx.x.xxx (the ip address for your windows 11 machine)

Report back your findings.

Enable "SMB1.0/CIFS Client" for all machines (including your W11 Laptop) on your private Network.
