Firefox (123.0 - 64 bit) interrupts typing when alerts arrive

OS
Windows 11
This happens in both Windows 11 (23H2) for me, and on another computer with Windows 10.

Since my Firefox 64-bit updated to 123.0 last week, when I get a "bottom right of the screen" alert - such as an incoming text message on my google pixel, or an incoming GSuite business email - typing that I am doing stops until the message alert goes away.

Prior to 123.0, I could keep typing while the alert displayed.

How do I fix this so that I can continue typing (email composition, web-based text messages, ANYTHING in a free-form text-entry buffer). Does not appear to interfere with typing outside of Firefox.

Roll back Firefox and hope that the next update corrects it?

I am not sure if this helps with my description, but see the image below:

1709052986027.png

This is an incoming text message via my google pixel phone. It shows up in the bottom right of the screen, as always. So do incoming GSuite business email messages (gmail).

Prior to the Firefox update to 123.0, I could keep typing on whatever I was doing in the browser, as those incoming alerts or whatever they're called displayed. But now, the alert interrupts my typing until it disappears after a few seconds.

@antspants I could roll back I guess, but then I'd be forced to perpetually roll back with every update, until Mozilla fixes this.

I want the alert to still come in as always, but I don't want it to interrupt my typing.

There are no significant changes in version 123.0

Why don't you use the stable branch of Firefox

The bug I'm reporting definitely happened in 123.0. And my computers automatically update FF when a new update is pushed, so I know for a fact that until 123.0 was installed late last week, I didn't have this problem. I've seen "unintended consequence" bugs in FF (and all software), where an invisible minor tweak done in the update, has a consequential effect on a feature I use a lot.

Install the 'esr' version of Firefox.
It is more stable. Just copy your profile there.
123 doesn't mean better than 115.

Elementary questions, sorry:
  • By doing so, I retain all my existing FF settings, right? - cookies, history, passwords, everything (in asking this I realize that you'd said copy my profile there, so that answers that, I think)
  • How do I update to the next "stable" version of FF - am I supposed to watch to see when a new one is available?

For version 123, the profile is located

C:\Users\<your_name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\l90tt7wy.default-release

where <l90tt7wy> you have different numbers.

1.pngI don't have the esr version, no

Run Firefox ESR.
A profile will be created in some folder
C:\Users\<your_name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\.... (where there are a lot of files)
copy the contents of C:\Users\<your_name>AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\l90tt7wy.default-release there.
