I have an issue showing up for the last few months. I use Firefox on Windows 11 Pro (updates current). When on some webpages, I highlight text and right click to Copy. Lately the Copy option is sometimes grayed out. This happens on random websites, also on Amazon or Wikipedia it works sometimes and not others. CTRL-C and CTRL-V always work.

Any idea why this happens about half the time?

Some websites prevent copy, although I haven’t tried with Amazon or Wikipedia, I can’t imagine it to be denied on those sites.

This isn’t the most desired fix because you have to setup Firefox again, but…

To Refresh Firefox:

Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings | Firefox Help

A Refresh can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its default state while saving essential information like bookmarks and passwords.

Same thing is happening to me with FF. If you highlight your text, right click on it, click "select all" then you can go wherever your want, right click and select paste.

It goes against what "select all" has meant in the past.

Let me add, I do not have to do this on every site, just some. It's different from sites that don't allow copy at all. Makes no sense.

Definitely new. About 2-3 weeks old and so weird that there's no rhyme or reason when it happens. I'm just waiting for their next update. I've been using Edge more and more and am close to swapping my main browser..

Sounds like you are having the exact thing I described. Thanks for spelling it out so I know it's not just me. Hopefully it will be fixed.

As far as switching, I like to mix it up a bit as far as certain software vendors. I use a different browser, email program, photo viewer, backup software, and other apps so not everything is from Microsoft. Not meaning to be paranoid, but it encourages competition and is often better then the Microsoft versions. I could adapt if needed, but I actually like Firefox.

I haven't been seeing that as often in very recent times. IIRC, I see that more with '00s-designed (maybe a bit older as well) web sites.

It's not worth a lot of effort, but I was curious as to if it was me or an actual flaw. Thanks for replying. Since glasskuter seen the same behavior I'm guessing others and Mozilla are aware by now.

I'm using 128.0.0 and I don't have any issues. I did try Amazon and it works just fine. I haven't noticed any problem on other websites although I admit not using copy/paste very often. I usually just print the screen

I had a question on MP3TAG and was on their forum this afternoon. I was not able to copy and paste with a right click. I just got a response on my tagging question and the same forum now did let me use the mouse. The point is that it is random. I'm glad another forum member here was able to confirm this.

Must be some kind of bug.
It happens sometimes. I usually reopen the page and everything works.

Yes, possibly this ongoing bug:

1863246 - Copy and Paste context menu entries are sometimes disabled when they should not be

ASSIGNED (sefeng) in Core - DOM: Navigation. Last updated 2024-07-12.

If Ctrl + c works , then that might be the easiest workaround, otherwise as per some reports in that bug report, clicking once in the address bar to change focus, and then right clicking on the required text on the page also appears to be working for some.
