Hi all
I am running fully updated W11 Home v22H2 with Firefox v105.0.1 64bit
Following recent updates to both, I find the browser crashing immediately when I attempt to type a URL into the address bar. It works OK with bookmarks and pasting, but not direct typing. However, I have learned how to prevent a crash, by typing more than one letter at great speed. That works most of the time. Edge does not appear to have this problem.
I would like to post a thread in the Mozilla forum, but after registration, the forum won't accept my verification code. It's too long....apparently!
Any help or suggestions with either problem will be gratefully received.
Thanks.

Assuming that you have any extensions installed, the first step is always, from the Help menu, select "Troubleshoot Mode," to determine if one or more extensions is the cause of the problem. If Fx works properly, then re-enable a set of extensions, and if the problem arises again, the disable part of the set, until you find the culprit; continue this process to find the cause.

Thanks and I have tried to locate the problem by process of elimination as you suggest. Unfortunately, the problem persists. I have also tried reinstalling with a fresh copy of the browser, but again with no success.

The next step is to create a new profile for Fx; lots of advice on how to do this available on such sources as mozillaZine (not necessary to log on there to read messages.) New profile should be tested without any additions or changes to see if that works.

(Sorry, I'm too busy now to look up and find the instructions for you.)

Easy to create a new profile: just run the command firefox -P, select Create New Profile, and use the default name or give it a name.
Delete the failing profile, run firefox -P again, when the new one is configured and running nicely, and select the Delete Files option.

Not necessarily that easy, as this method does not transfer important data from the existing to a new profile.

This article lists those files that you may want to include in setting up a new profile:

Having read something about various problems after the Win. 22H2 update, I decided to go back to before that update, using an image I made earlier. That did the trick and my Fx is now working properly again. Unfortunately (some may say "fortunately") my Edge will not fire up for some reason. I will now wait a while before updating Windows, hoping whatever caused my problem in the first place, irons itself out.

With further reference to my Firefox crashing issue, I am pleased to confirm the problem has been solved! Nothing to do with Firefox, which in my opinion is by far the best browser out there.
I also use ZoneAlarm Extreme Security, which again I highly recommend. However, just the other day I discovered the ZA software is never automatically upgraded. I had contacted ZA support and they immediately informed me that my version of ZA was very old and that my version was not designed for Windows 11. Once I installed the latest version my problem went away and all is now in order with Firefox. :-)
I hope this is of help to anyone experiencing this or similar issues.
